OK (not directed at anyone) Man goes out does his thing, woman goes out does her thing.. how much time do they spend together at home or joint activites? Quite a lot or not very much?

Also if you have small children,, both can't be out at the same time doing their own thing

Re: Why would some people choose to be single?

I think the purpose of  discussion boards are posters make posts and others are free to comment on them if they wish to. No-one can direct another not to reply to their posts.

You keep posting rubbish.. like stick with your knitting, first world war etc.

Why aren't you happy and full of sunshine or why aren't you spending time with your new love instead of chatting to (abusing) old people on the internet?

WHY DO PEOPLE CHOSE TO BE SINGLE is the topic, did you actually answer that?

I prefer being single and I'm happier when I'm single (after the first flush of love is over). I've had plenty of people over the years tell me it's because I haven't met the 'right' one, I'm a little cynical about that. Being in a relationship means making sacrifices for the other person (and they for you) I would have to feel very strongly for someone to do that.

I could list numerous reasons why I choose to be single but to summarise it - independance.

But that's exactly the point. If you found someone who is compatible and you still can have your independence, would you still choose to be single????

Maybe not, if it made us happy, but I really think that is the exception and not the rule. Relationships have never been my stong point, I generally find them hard work. My life is easier and I'm more content when I'm single. I'm very comfortable being single and find others more unsettled by it than I ever was, particularly when I was younger.

It did take time to fully embrace it and realise the white knight wasn't coming and to just get on with living, this had alot to do with societies expectations. I think far too much emphasis is placed on being in a relationship and being valued by another rather than learning to value ourselves first.

Yawnies.. living in the past, same old bag out the old people (even though you don't even know anyone's ages) you drop in, ... it isn't 2003.. it is 2013.. It is getting very old (!).

A fixation with world wars (do you actually even know the years/dates when World War I and II were on?)

In response AM - my fiancé works out at MacArthur river NT - 3 weeks on for 12 hours straight, no break at all. That's how real men work

I am sorry my 20yo doesn't have any grandkids. Could you please comeback with something more believable?

You don't seem to be a very happy person, for that reason alone I have no reason to envy you, your approaching 40th, your lack of tact etc.

Try $180,000 a year as a supervisor - hmmmm sniff it. I don't live off the government (unlike you AM) and though I pull in a meager $40,000 I'm thinking we will never need the help
