Would you defend one person against many people if you also agreed with the

majority of people that the one person was wrong.

I would for sure defend the one person and not mention their ideas I don't agree with.

Far too often here you see a single person without a single friend because of their views on one thing or another.

Not sure I understand..... having friends here is subjective, I would not defend the "wrong" if I did not agree with the statement/stance/action etc.... but might defend the person if they are subjected to unfair criticism or ridicule.

I don't agree with opinions just because I am friends with the poster.

It depends what they are and how they are expressed I suppose. I would unless the person who has a different opinion is ALSO threatening,advocating/preaching hate and violence, abusive, insulting, aggressive, uses bad language and/or shows total disregard for other people's opinions/beliefs and their equal right to express them  .I like that people have different opinions.

I would if the groups argument is too extreme and one sided, away from the facts.

I believe in bringing balance to a discussion, that in turn will often make parcipants level headed, thus producing more concise/constructive viewpoints.

AZ this is just an example of what I mean, say a poster makes a really bad racist remark

and everyone jumps in and attacts him even the ones who may be slightly racist themselves,

but prefer not to go against the flow.

I would not defend the remark but I would defend the person making it.

Does that make sense?

everyone has a right to feel how they choose, everyone has a right to express their opinion, but everyone who chooses to express a hateful or inciteful opinion needs to recognise others have a right to express their opinion on that opinion.

Thanks Margo...... for explaining. 🙂 I would not defend the poster for the racist comment...... I agree with pepe's post but I don't think I would be friends with someone who made those comments. I wouldn't attack them either... but I would probably object to the comment.

Mostly I want to know how... and why.... someone might think like that ....

Racism is subjective in my eyes.. What one person might see as racist someone else might not. Apparently it's not racist to say that Aussies are stupid drunk bogans, but it's racist to point out that other races are racist also...
