majority of people that the one person was wrong.
I would for sure defend the one person and not mention their ideas I don't agree with.
Far too often here you see a single person without a single friend because of their views on one thing or another.

I would defend anyone's right to their views, I may not agree, but neither do I agree with mindless mob attacks.

The poll is very black and white as it your OP - if in fact the person (my friend) was indeed wrong - Why would and how could I possibly defend them?? I would defend perhaps their right to an opinion that differs, but you can't defend a blatant wrong with any real conviction.

I would try to be empathetic and put myself in their shoes to try an understand why they have a certain opinion that is offensive to others or what ever the case may be. It's hard to measure a response based on limited information but its going to depend what the opinion is based on, ie is it totally off the planet and unacceptable to the rest of society? If so I could never agree with it, ie I couldn't agree with opinions that hurt others or put others at risk if acted on or it may be an opinion that does not sit with my convictions.
I'd disagree with them but never condone behavior that puts others at risk. I'd chat with them and offer another perspective (but then who's to say I'm right or wrong?) but I will not defend someone who attacks others. They have a right to an opinion but nobody else has to agree with it.
