Im looking for some activities that my mother could get involved in. She is in her late 70's quite fit but suffers from anxiety. The anxiety has come about due to the loss of siblings, getting older etc. She used to be very vibrant but now lacks confidence to do things on her own. She hates being stuck at home with her OH (who is quite happy to sit and surf the channels on the tv), this adds to her anxiety. Im trying to think of some things that she could do that would involve being with other women but nothing too strenuous and she's not the craft type of person. any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

How about Bingo? Many ladies and some men (a lot don't have the patience for it) enjoy a game of Bingo and some are quite addicted to it - going to various venues through the week where a session is being held. Have a look-see in her local area to start with to find out what's going.

Does your local community Health centre have groups? next to my FIL's nursing home, there is community day care facility, lots of ladies from the community volunteer there.

Check with your city offices.
My OH drives a bus to pick up the elderly from nursing homes and sometimes own homes and takes them to a community centre where they are given lunch, do easy mind games and simple exercise then returned to their home. It is funded by the City. This is in Vic so don't know if other states do it.

Get her to join an amature writing group. She does not have to write a great masterpiece.Alot of people start by writing the story of their life.Once started in a group it becomes a very social event.
