art thread?

Hi folks. I've just bought a box of coloured pencils, and will be working on my first drawing soon. I'll post the completed work here. Would love people to post their art here for us to see. Doesn't matter what type of art - drawing, painting, photos/photo manipulation, cake decorating, quilting, poetry, origami, whatever. Let's have some fun and show our creativity. 🙂

Re: art thread?

by the way Moonlight.   there are "water colour pencils " you can buy.  you draw with them then using a medium brush with a good point, you put water on the drawing (carefully) and you have a 'watercolour' painting.   fascinating...I might buy some soon. seeing I'm inspired.

Thanks for the info Gill - never heard of these types of pencils.

soul, no they're just normal pencils. My biggest problem with these pencils is that I don't know how to do skin tone with the available colours. I had a google and it appears I need the more expensive Prismacolor pencils to achieve skin tone. I've got the Staedler Norris Club 144(36 colours). I'm experimenting with mixing colours.

Re: art thread?

Some of you might remember me on another thread where I said I was no good at arty things.

I don't have the time to look into carpentry yet so I have gone and bought a box that has paints, pastels, pencils and crayons I was thinking of using the pastels first.

As I have not really tried to draw before apart from painting by numbers can someone please tell me what the best subject is to learn how to draw,  is it animals, flowers, landscape??

Or should I just go out and buy a book, if that is the best option what is the best one for beginners to get.

Re: art thread?

mainecoon1, I've never drawn before either. So my suggestion is to draw things in your everyday life ie. cups, vases, computer, bottles, car etc.

Or draw your own face. Drawing is fun and relaxing. 🙂

Re: art thread?

there's heaps of stuff you can google maincoon.   just put up How to Draw for a start and go from there.    You have to start....that's the main thing.   and learn from there

Re: art thread?

I'd go outside and pick a leaf or simple flower mainecoon. Make sure the light is on it and when you're drawing it look to see which side the light hits.  Take the time to really look and see where the light and dark tones are.  If you do use soft pastels, use a cotton bud to press the pigment into the paper and start from light colours to dark.

Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing.
