art thread?

Hi folks. I've just bought a box of coloured pencils, and will be working on my first drawing soon. I'll post the completed work here. Would love people to post their art here for us to see. Doesn't matter what type of art - drawing, painting, photos/photo manipulation, cake decorating, quilting, poetry, origami, whatever. Let's have some fun and show our creativity. ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: art thread?

can you overlay the colours? It may need proper watercolour paper to work, but you could try putting a yellow over that blue

Re: art thread?

That's a good idea skwerl.  I really do think using watercolour paper will improve your work moonlight.

It can be frustrating when your paintings don't turn out the way you visualise them and although we all have likes/dislikes, some mediums suit some subjects better than others.

At art yesterday, everyone was happy to do their own thing, so I started on a series of drawings/paintings of an apple.  I thought if I do the same pic in different mediums it may be of help to those interested on here.

I've used coloured pencils, oil pastels and ink so far and will try to finish off today and post later.

I don't think you should give up on your painting moonlight, the worst thing that could happen is that you learn what you "don't" like.  Some artists use watercolours as the underpainting and then use pastels over the top when it's dry.  Could give that a try ?

Re: art thread?

I agree with Soul (and someone way back said it too) You really should try some watercolour paper.

Re: art thread?

Every time that I've tried to fix a piece, it ends up looking worse, so I will leave this one alone. Smiley Very Happy A bit bored with it too. Am currently working on a few pieces, will post them when I am done in a week or 2.

PS - who is Rosie?

Moonlight, I really think the water colour paper is great.  It was only $4 for a pad of 30 A5 sheets.  It looks so much better than trying to use watercolours on copy paper, even for a beginner like moi.

Where did you buy the pad? I couldn't find it at Officeworks, where they sell 12 sheet A4 pads for $12.17. Not cheap!

Re: art thread?

Hi moonlight.  do you have a store like Flash Harry's, Crazy Clark etc ?  They usually have quite a range of art supplies.

I've finished the apples done in different mediums, so will post them.

Hope it helps somebody who is wondering what to use when starting out.
