art thread?

Hi folks. I've just bought a box of coloured pencils, and will be working on my first drawing soon. I'll post the completed work here. Would love people to post their art here for us to see. Doesn't matter what type of art - drawing, painting, photos/photo manipulation, cake decorating, quilting, poetry, origami, whatever. Let's have some fun and show our creativity. 🙂

Re: art thread?

Hi moonlight, they're not very good but I was really just trying to show the results from different mediums.

I love using the impasto gel and painting in a very loose style.  Everyone ends up having a favourite, and over the years mine has changed constantly.

Look forward to seeing your lastest works.

Re: art thread?

Mosaic chook. I think it's meant to be a garden type ornament but I use mine as a door stop. It's made of cement. This one is a joint effort between me and my sister. She got the bare chook from TheJoyBus Cafe, Barnawatha

Re: art thread?

I like the lemons Moonlight.  Soul, I really like the apple done in soft pastels.  How do you get them to stop smudging?

Do you spray them with something?

I've got some soft pastels, oil pastels, water colour pencils and enamel paints but in truth it is all just wishful thinking. Talentless Smiley Very Happy

I bought the pastels when Em was trying to teach me how to colour Fimo clay miniatures and they are good for that.

Re: art thread?

How are your flower watercolours coming along joono? They looked nice. Are you still learning from that flower website?

If you think that you are "talentless", then you won't initiate any art, and nothing will change. If I can give art a go(and I had no art experience at all), then I don't see why anyone else can't. And it looks like you already have art gear at your disposal.

Give it a go. What have you got to lose? Smiley Happy

Re: art thread?

Hi art people.

I really like the lemons too, moonlight.

Nice duck skwerl, I've seen them done using a baloon and plaster of paris.  The balloon is filled with the plaster and sort of pulled into shape as it's setting.....wouldn't be any good as a doorstop though! Love the mosaics on it.

joono, you can use hairsparay on the soft pastel drawings.  There are "proper" products called fixitives which you also spray on them and on charcoal drawings, too.  The sprays darken the colours a little, so if you put some pastels on a scap bit of paper and use the hairspray you'll see what I mean.  You can also go over the pastels (and charcoal) with water, just paint like you're, well, painting! haha

I'm doing one atm, using acrylics as the underpainting and going over it with oil pastels.  I'll them use oil over that.  You can use linseed oil, vege oil, olive oil etc it kind of melts the pastels and gives an "oil painting" look.

If anyone wants to know how to measure things in proportion...like when you see artists holding the paintbrush or pencil in front of them and moving their finger up and down, let me know.  Once you've got the hang of it you can draw anything and it will be in proportion.

Have fun !!
