It seems strange that Tassie would go up like that when it is such a beautiful green state. One hour away is still too close.

I think it is a bit of a myth that we are a green state............I read somewhere that we are actually the second driest state.
Yesterday on the news they were saying the Midlands highwaywas closed due to water bombing and that the tar on the highway was melting............:O

I never underestimate fires and the distance they cantravel in the heavy winds that they create around themselves, the only thing to do is to monitor all available information services and be aware of what is happening, even if you think you are far away!.... The people in Marysville Vic were unaware of the danger they were in until it was too late on Black Saturday....... King Lake was the same......I have never seen anything like the aftermath of that day!! ....... So stay aware!

People with spare rooms a heads up - I just spoke to Peppermint Bay Cruises to get clear information about the shuttle ferry. At the moment the next boat is due around 3.15pm and does a three hour loop shuttle (so closer to 7pm or later for next drop). There is no formal arrangement for people who can offer accommodation other than to go down and greet people, but there has been a need and it has been accepted. Some hotels have come on board. Given it only takes 200 passengers if you have good quality spare accommodation feel free to offer it but it doesn't sound desperate YET. They are NOT taking donations of goods from the public back to Nubeena as I'm pleased to report all the right agencies have it covered and supplies are heading back. If this changes I will post again.
Don't forget you can also register offers of accommodation by ringing the Sorell Visitors Centre or Sir William Don Hotel
