Always happy to be single at this time of year. Can't stand being bullied by the capitalist machine into proving my love. So sick of these days where one is subjected to constant pressure to spend money on something that should be done every day without the involvement of big or small business

Marriage managed to cure this incurable romantic. But I did buy the cat a can of tuna fish for Valentine's Day!

Are you referring to Valentines Day ?

It was a wee bit cryptic, but I think Valentine's Day as well.

It is actually one of the few things I actually "put a bit of effort" into,
at least buy flowers and a card.

I don't celebrate Xmas or birthdays or any other days.

They are all way over commercialised.

My husband is hopelessly romantic and we always look at Valentine's Day as something a little bit special, but not in monetary terms.   Each year, I bake us something really different that he hasn't seen before and decorate it lavishly ... after that, we share the rest with visitors, happily married for 31 years in July ....  Heart

Tas

I cooked Scallops and prawns in a cream garlic sauce and that sat on some steak.

One year it was T bone, next a nice piece of fillet.

Enjoyed by both of us.

It was a meal similar to what we have had out at a restaurant but thought we could do just as well,

which we can.

Oh wow Vic, that sounds delicious.  What a wonderful treat, I can taste it all from here (but mind you, I'm allergic to prawns sadly)

Agree with you that a dinner well planned for such an event is worth it all, and certainly the way to go to not have to spend oodles of money xx

I think the meal at the restaurant (a kind of beef and reef but slightly different to most, has octopuses in it) is about $25 - $27.

I doubt what I cook up would be more than that and no more than $30.

Her kids go away every 2nd weekend so most times, instead of going out we (more often than not she) cooks up something different as she knows I'll try anything. It also means she can cook things the kids don't like such as Mushrooms etc.

She loves cooking, to me it is I cook to eat and if I put my mind to it I can do it above average.

I must admit, when I first met her, I did teach her how to boil eggs to her sons perfection LOL Smiley LOL
(As in ALL the hwite cooked but all the yolk still runny !)

When we got married, there was no such thing in Australia as Valentine's Day

If there was,  we would have gotten married one week later.

Anniversary 6th Feb.  -  44 years

Spoiler
- But I don't hold grudges.

Hubs and I don't worry about Valentine's Day.

It's nice to see all the bouquets come in for the girls at work though.
