without a moral lawgiver [God] in a true atheistic society with all the evolutionary doctrine acceptable. if then everybody's view/point/understanding is then relative
would rape be legal?
killing off those who are a burden to society, the handicapped, blind, down syndrome be encouraged?
what about the elderly?
infanticide?
and would gays be worse off since they don't contribute to mans upward evolutionary struggle?
to who's standard would society look to?
since so many posters on here don't like God so much have you truly considered what would happen?
this one's for you bob or at least in reverse to your normal topics.

Cool, I get a personal mention:-D
When you say a moral lawgiver (God). Can you explain to me how exactly does God give us the ability to decide right from wrong. The bible? THe 10 Commandments? Unless you can do so, I can't have a meaningful conversation with you.
Evolution ain't a doctrine.
In realities morals are relative depending on circumstances. Is lying, killing ever OK?
Explain to me why you think that "
"killing off those who are a burden to society, the handicapped, blind, down syndrome be encouraged?
what about the elderly?
infanticide?"
is a stance by someone who doesn't believe in God??? I don't get your logic.

if you don't like the topic don't read it or with evolution some get smarter others de-evolve

Quite simply, if there was a "god" then he/she must have a very nasty streak. So many atrocities happen that anyone who had the power to stop these things would not let "his" people suffer.
my thoughts, there is no god.

no I wont bob, they have to explain to me. and so far they haven't if man decides what's wrong with those things I mentioned?

I think evolution has more factual evidence than religion Gav. That doesn't make me right, but from the point of view of animals etc that have evolved, and how the earth has evolved, fossils, dinosaurs, ice cores and so on, that's what the evidence is.
It's easy to become 'caught' up between evolution and "intelligent design" when there may not even be a difference.
Couldn't it be that a "Universal Creator" started everything off, then it evolved to where it is now without there having to be combative arguments?
The human condition is a completely different issue ... perhaps it's not about atheists versus christians versus vesus everyone else ... it could be said that people are the problem, not any faith.

thanks for that newstart there is a God, so there. see I am just as intelligent as an atheist.

Christopher Hitchens - "Human decency is not derived from religion. It precedes it."
as an aside-I was so happy to hear old Popey giving me his blessing. I feel sooo much better about being an atheist now 😛

I admire his statement. Similar to Dalai Lama : " my religion is kindness"
I watched Q and A and Amanda Vanstone said " “If you're nice to people every day, other than to defend yourself, you will get into any heaven worth getting into.” How could you disagree with that?
How did the Christian repond on the show : "THere is only one way.......belief in Jesus Christ as your Saviour."

I think you are really intelligent Gav, never have doubted that xx

simple bob, Amanda Vanstone is not God so she doesn't have the final word.

It's not absolutely right or wrong. They're grey areas. Whether you believe in God or not, people fall on both sides of any current issues you can think of. Euthansia, capital punishment, gun laws. etc etc.
HOw do man decide? they look at reason, evidence, weight up harm vs benefit etc etc. Explain to me where you think God makes the moral laws?? do you think the bible is a book of absolute morality?
