coronavirus vaccine, who should get it first?

with 1000+ untimely coronavirus influenced deaths (UTCIDs) per hour - and possibly countless additional post-recovery chronic health issues -  in the States , with no hope of eradication , risks of a fast tracked vaccine will be justified

I believe the big phama has been granted immunity from law suits in the event of unforseen side effects - Four influences  : Marketplace demand , Govt standards, manufacturers and company product liability insurance companies

( I think in the USA most of the oldies have effective health insurance and so must be treated in hospital if critical - so can not be fobbed off - an upside of their user pays centric socio-economic system)

Well, this could be a real cause for concern.

I think I'll take my chances with boosting health.

We the people of Australia can carefully observe results in the UK until March next year - and many have relatives accessable for back channel commentary.

As for boosting health - what exactly makes certain people prone to dying ? I know one factor is viral loading - breathing in corona smog all day and being a little pudgy but are there other common factors such as a stagnant lymphatic system  ?

Have you ever met anyone who isn't prone to dying? I'm pretty sure we all will at some point. and what exactly is"corona smog" ? That's a new phrase for me.

" corona smog " build up of airborne virus by a spreader over time in an enclosed space to a critical density likely to cause an infection to other people

I seem to recall the US downgraded one of their pandemic related departments some time ago for budgetary reasons.... but we skimped on bushfire mitigation with dire consequences and for the same reason.. so penny wise &..... is not restricted to the US

Incompetent administrations both there and here. Prioritisation is never going to be where it should be with the confusion created by corporate influence.

The stats should also note total respiratory related deaths - covid is not the only killer and can be in combination with other disease and conditions - and compare with previous years for additional context in evaluating threat - I think the poms are registering 80-100% untimely respiratory related deaths over average years

As the ABC showed, the stats were not accurate and they were inflated somewhat. An elderly and infirm person could die from diabetes related complications or renal failure. If they have Corona virus, their death will be likely recorded as death from Corona even though it's directly caused by their pre-existing conditions.

Looking below at what can be done in the early stages, if this were done properly and not by-passed as it has been happening, there would be a very great reduction in the statistics.

Actually ambercat16, most of what rogespeed says is logical and makes sense. I would say that rogespeed has an understanding on what is taking place and has contributed a lot of fact to thiss discussion. I'm not always in agreement with this poster but I see a person who has concerns  and I also see someone who looks at the bigger picture and outside of what Rupert Murdoch decides we are allowed to know.

looks like the poms are implementing first : geriatric people and frontline health care workers priority I recall, then i would speculate senior aged and the immune compromised and those with a history of respiritory issues

btw Any word on the Australian UoQ vaccine development - was in late stage development quite a few months ago

More than 1/3 of American citizens of all ages have either no health insurance, or are underinsured to the point where using their exiating insurance would send them into bankruptcy. Although emergency rooms are required to treat anyone who shows up there, you still get the bill. Even those considered adequately insured can end up in bankruptcy because there are limits on services.

As for the elderly, if your state hasn't expanded Medicare/Medicaid and you live on Social Security only, You usually have to choose between the extra insurance premiums or getting food and meds in the house and paying the normal bills.

No matter what you see on the "news", or on crackpot websites, there is no free ride for anyone here. More people every year die of starvation, lack of medications, lack of proper medical care and exposure( from being homeless) , and that isn't going to stop until we take care of each other.

And if you do watch real Amrican news, you can see how many don't care abot their fellow Americans, or hether they live or die. The mask issue is just a part of the overall selfishness displayed more blatntly every day, thanks to Trump.

Thank you for the kind invite, but I'm far too old to be a world traveler. Plus I don't like flying and I get seasick. Woman Happy

Vaccine developemt & manufacturer employees including management , then any share holders in the company , then those that approve the vaccine , then Doctors and nurses who administer the vaccine - and no fudging using placebos...

I reckon after that list, The Chickenhawks  should be next. Since they appear to have primarily served those who profiteered from OIL, they should now serve humanity and offer themselves as the guinea pigs.
