Stress is a leading cause of eczema outbreaks.
There can also be certain foods that can be a trigger as well as certain medications, but that is very individual.
Smoking can bring it on.
It may simply be psoriasis, a mild form of eczema.
And I am firm believer in swimming in the sea regularly to ward off skin problems.

Members of my framily suffer badly with it, we used to have this fabulous tiny pot of Doan's ointment but it is no longer made. My sister got a chemist to make some up for her in Canberra.

Mr Grizz - like you I get it in my ears which is the worse possible place to get it. I now have hearing loss thanks to damage caused by the friction of scratching and through the various creams and oils I used over the years.
Using any type of oil in the ear makes it worse because it never 'dries' up so your ear is constantly damp. It also means you can have small amounts of oils making their way into your ear canal which is what happened to me.
The only cream I use is a very small amount of Hydrozole (over the counter). Every week even if there is no itching or 2-3 tmes a day when there is itching.
As Donna says, there is no cure. You can only keep at it and hope it eventually goes away.
