facebook 'notifications'

i dont use facebook but i did sign up once many years ago, there is nothing in my account information beyond my name.

so fine, i did get several people with my surname wanting to make contact, i never did. after that first time looking at a friends page (thats why i signed up) i never went back.

but i have recieved messages alerting me to people wanting me to 'add' them to my whatever. i just delete the messages.

just recently these messages have been adding the bit 'you have x notifications and x friend requests'

ive been deleting them too.

but the 'notifications' which began with like 4, is now up to 50.

what are 'notifications'? LOL

David, I don't 'do' Facebook either, but if you click on the notfications, it's

usually some numpty from gawd knows where 'liking' your page.

(For explanation, daughter has a Business FB account - that's how I know)

Re: facebook 'notifications'

Go into your facebook settings. You can switch off the notifications there. Cambridge Analytica might help you if you get stuck.

Re: facebook 'notifications'

think i'll just continue deleting them as they arrive.

i'm not one to click on things in emails just to see what it does.

and logging into facebook might alert them i actually havent died LOL

Re: facebook 'notifications'

It would not matter David....my brother in law died 8 years ago and there are still idiots posting birthday wishes on his page every year.

To me that is sick.

I only joined to get in touch with a friend who had gone overseas and had not sent us a mailing address.

All I use the account for now is to keep up with the rellies in Canada and the US who live their lives on Facebook for everyone to see.  I just read about their doings without posting anything at all.

Re: facebook 'notifications'

David, if you can see there's X number of notifications, then you're already logged in and they can see you haven't already died.

Clicking on the notifications is not the same as clicking on links in emails.

It can't get you in trouble.

As said, go into settings and turn off notifications if it's bothering you.

Me too. I have never posted on Facebook, but It seems lots of young ladies are keen on me LOL.

I have played around with the settings to try and stop notifications, but have failed. I would appreciate any advice on how to stop them too.

Re: facebook 'notifications'

Google has this advice -

f you want to turn it off here's how to do it:
  1. Open your Facebook app, tap 'menu' and tap into the Facebook settings.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the list, under 'Advanced Notification Settings' you should see an option to uncheck 'Ongoing notifications'
  3. Uncheck and that should stop the ongoing notifications.

Re: facebook 'notifications'

An easy way is to drop down your notifications (button up the top with the world on it) and on the top is "settings".

Everything you need is there.

If you know his password then just delete the account or remove his birthday,("friends" would be getting

notifications from Facebook telling them that it's his Birthday and would be responding automatically).

It's a Facebook problem,(at times you will also get a lot of garbage or groups in your "suggested" pages that

are gross or you want nothing to do with as it's a "control" thing with them),stubborn_smiley_by_mirz123-d4bt0te_zps12f1a5a3.gif
