gift cards

You have ti be an absolute plonker to buy a gift card. They are a scam to get free money. They expire. They are seldom the exact amount required by the recipient to purchase the desired items. Requiring either more money to be handed over or money left on the card just becomes extra profit for the business. Stop buying gift cards. They are useless

Not everyone buys Gift Cards but we do receive them.

We both belong to online shopper panels and get paid for our participation in Coles/Myer gift vouchers.....every month we receive our $10 vouchers in the mail.  It really is money for nothing.

Last Christmas we bought a new microwave oven with enough left over for a small steamer.

This year's cards are still waiting to be spent but I doubt that Coles/Myer are going to go belly up any time soon.

Usually I give my daughters and partners money but this year I decided to give gift vouchers from Bunnings..they are both renovating their houses so both have used the cards to buy paint etc...was told they loved them and what a good present!!

I can't answer for esayaf, but generic gift cards are useless in my town.  We don't have Coles or any derivatives, certainly no Westfield or similar.  We do have Woolworths (supermarket, not BigW) but hey who wants a couple of loaves of bread and some milk for Christmas.  All the other stores are small privately owned local businesses.

A gift card for me means more hassle than it's worth and seems lazy of the givers behalf.  They obviously haven't thought about the time and travel it means for me.

Gift cards are definately a marketing excercise for plonkers. My sister who has a high paying job with hubby also earning a squilion buys me gift cards from major city stores. She shops there regularly paying the $30 parking fees and buying the overpriced clothes and shiny tack and just expects that everyone else does the same.

I have a blind wife who does not work and needs to be guided in unfamiliar surroundings. Very taxing on everyone when its busy. I only work some of the time as I have to run the kids around, do the shopping and help around the house. I cant afford to shop in the city and would avoid the bustle of the main strip like the plague even if I had the cash. I wouldnt have been to the main city shopping strip in three years and have never used any of the cards. Frankly I find them down right annoying.

My mother gives us cash and I regularly use it to take the family out for a nice casual meal. The kids love the cash as they can pool it at christmas and buy exactly what they want, often adding it to savings to purchase major items such as i phones etc.

Gift cards are definately a marketing excercise for plonkers. Cash is king.     Smiley Wink

No need to be sarcastic.

The gift card was given to Peter at Christmas by one of our young family members who lives in the city. Christmas was at my sons place who lives an hours drive from us, but not towards the city. It takes one and a half hour to get to Melbourne and the same time to get back, but the gift giver has never been to our home and has no idea where South Gippsland is.

And no, the art shop does not have an internet shop.

i wanted to know why anyone would be

so thoughtless, knowing (or not knowing)

the giftee would have to travel for 3hrs

to redeem it.

Well, sorry, but I was being sarcastic.

If you going to give a gift card, all aspects of that gift card have

to be taken into account.

No point giving one if the recipient can't get to the store.

A few questions from other rellies would have been in order first IMO
