I drive the community car. Take people unable to drive to the doctors mainly. Sometimes it's a big day with a 650k return trip to Melbourne
I'm unable to now but my daughter does. she has helped out at the local community centre with form filling and acess to services for people having problems doing it themselves.
She also helps Lifeline cleaning irong and preparing clothes and goods for sale in their shops.

I am in the "friends of" group in the local area and we have around 6 tree plantings per year.
I am also known as the caretaker of our local shopping strip with around 30 businesses. Liase with council and police on many matters.
And 20 years ago started my own charity "a wishing well" which assists families in unfortunate situations.
Was involved in RDA (Riding for disabled) some years back. (We were a horse family)
BTW, good thread wilk.

I used to volunteer in our local Historical Villge. Had lots of fun meeting people from all over the world. Volunteered at the Hospital Kiosk until new managment closed it down. Now I just knit for the Guardian Angels, garments for needy children. And I give voluntary smiles wherever I go.
Peter still volunteers to take any of our neighbours to appointments in another town, or even to some of their meetings locally when they can not get a Taxi. He takes their rubbish bins in on rainy days and fixes little things for them, like changeing lightbulbs, fixing hinges on cupboard doors or heling with the settings of a new TV.
Volunteering is fun and gives one a purpose in life.
There is always someone who needs a little help or just a sympathetic ear.

Erica, I used to knit for The Guardian Angels also.
That is, until my fingers wouldn't let me anymore (arthritis)
Between June and August every year. Set myself a task to beat my own record.
My best year I knitted 19 jumpers. Felt good.

I think most people I know do some volunteer work, some do animal rescue and whatever else it entails, some sew for various groups, some raise money and some do it at nursing homes and hospitals.
My daughter sews for NICU Helping Hands Angel Gown Program Australia, they make gowns from used and donated wedding gowns.
I sew for SIDS which is a similar program.

Stawka, I too have arthritis in my hands and can not knit as fast as I used to, but I find it good excercise, even if I only knit half a dozen rows at one time. I can't resist a bargain on wool. Our OP shops have often brand new balls of wool, leftovers from someones knitting, and as you know, a childs jumper can be lovely with differeent colours.
Do you have your Guardian Angels badge?

Do you have your Guardian Angels badge?
Sure do. A little orange one. But it's years old now.
Did they have other colours?
I already have too much wool - can't look for more.

I volunteer at the local church which runs a foodbank agency supplying food for people in need. On thursday I help unload the supplys when the truck comes in and again on saturday when the client come.
I have also started to knit and sew outfits for still borns to be buried in.
