Can some one please tell me the answer to my query.
If I have a web page open, but then minimise the page... is it still using up my internet data availability?
I dont know how internet usage all works really, oh i understand downloading and uploading.. but as for the rest, nil, nada, zilch.
Ive just lowered my plan, and im not sure how to work out if I will exceed the usage allowable for the month.
cheers...
Computor is usally on 24/7, but we close web browsers and put it to *sleep* overnight.
cheers folks ๐

The way I understand it is that every time you open a page it counts towards your downloads. However opening and reading pages really is only very minimal, it's actual downloading programs, music, watching videos, that really chews into your usage as well as playing games. A page just sitting there doing nothing once opened is not using and downloads unless it is playing a video ect.
If your browser is closed it is using nothing.

If your browser is closed it is using nothing.
Updates will still download and can use a hunk or your data quota but as Roserobin said, video games, anything with sound and movement will use more than anything else.
Most pages will sit and use almost nothing while others that refresh constantly will use more, depending on the page content.

Jane - there are a few apps around that you can download for free that let you know how much data you are using/have used etc....
I use "Consume" and " Data Usage"

so when you say *video* games.... would the games on facebook count in that catergory?
Mostly, hubby and I use our internet for ebay and hotmail.
I also use it for facebook and gumtree. (minimal)
rarely use YouTube, but on the odd occassion I do.
My bigpond account usually tells me how much i have used but i cant be bothered logging in.
All i really wanted to know is if i have a page open, but minimised... does it still use data.
Cheers and thank you ๐

before changing plans why didnt you check how much data you use each month so you know if the new plan was suitable?
I hope you dont have a plan that charges for excess data because you may end up with a huge bill shock

yes, sorry I lost the comma. Videos and games. Yes the facebook ones use some download. not much probably.
Depends on the page. If it's static, no. If it refreshes, yes.
