is anyone else getting daily calls from indian call centers just lately?
i'm getting at least 1 per day and often 2 or 3.
i just do my 'let them listen to abc radio' trick. within a minute they have hung up, but they just keep coming.
its different each time, solar, computer, electricity, ect

yes david, same here.
A few months back, I had a big run of telstra technical department-always a new person on the phone. Next time I am going to deny having a computer. Even though we've been online for 23 years, I'm probably old enough to sound like it could possibly be true. See what they say then!
I've also had the solar panel people. Whether they are genuinely trying to sell a product I don't know but if I want the panels, I'll find a company & ring them!

thats my thought, if i need some advice on my computer or my solar power or all these other calls that want to know if i'm getting a good deal or telling me i have a problem i didnt know i had, id get in touch with a local dealer not some person i know is just out to scam me.
i guess they must still get people who believe them, but if everyones getting the calls i do, then the suprise is well and truly gone.
only elderly people would be fooled i presume.
then again i guess there are less and less of us with landlines, maybe thats why we get extra calls.
i went a few months with hardly any calls but in this last month, its really exploded.
on top of it i of course get the real calls from charities looking for donations and i know they are exempt from the do not call register.
also luckily i (thanks to my condition) have no trouble putting the phone down and walking away, leaving then talking to themselves or listening to the radio.
it must be difficult for some who are easily tricked.

I never got these calls when we had a silent number, they have all started since we went 'public' again.
And David, I don't think it is your condition causing you to have no trouble putting down the phone and walking away.
I do the same now, though I usually just hang up first. I think we're all just sick of it. A few times I have asked the people if their parents brought them up to be liars. Then they hang up on me!!

Yes I have also noticed an increase lately.
The charity calls don't surprise me.....they are needing money for Christmas.
Two calls have given me a laugh recently....."Telstra" suggesting that they would put me on the Do Not Call register to stop the annoying calls. As soon as I said yes, it will stop you calling me they hung up.
There was a new one earlier this week that completely floored me.....again "Telstra".....I confirmed that I was the user of the computer and a very Indian accented voice asked me if I would like him to sing me a song. I was so surprised that I asked him to repeat the question. I was not imagining things....he did indeed ask me if I would like him to sing me a song.
I hung up but after thinking about it later I should have said yes. I wonder where the scam is in that call.

Maybe in the person being called saying 'yes' (scammer might be recording it for something?)

I didn't think of the Yes scam.....I have been avoiding that word for long time anyway.
I usually say OK instead of Yes.

these days i never get to the 'yes' bit
they say 'is this mr ******?
i say 'thats me what ya want'
they begin there speil and i put the phone down and wander off.

charities are the much lesser of the calls, seem to all come within a day or 2 of each other then stop for weeks.
but it would be nice if there was an 'opt out' for those on pensions at least. and i'm sure not many on new start are big charity givers
those of us who are on fixed income who want to give to charity can easily do it without them calling us to tell us about the starving children or the wheelchair sports or the important research into ingrown toe nails, ect ect.
