Here's a good video on that. If his nails snagged in between the tiles (grout line) he'd think the floor bit him, or hurt himself slipping on it.....
@ 3:40 he mentions the mistake I see people make everyday with their pets dealing with any problem.

Has he hurt himself lately? even slightly? Boris hurt himself on the back steps recently and then started to refuse to come up them, he would come up to the 2nd last one, stare at it, then go back down. Really annoying at 2am after his toilet and run around the yard trick. Took him about a week and lots of positive dog talk to get over it.

Poor little Boris. My Chi Danny got a phobia over at the park a few months ago, where we cross this really low short bridge over the lake, have done it hundreds of time but this day he just stopped dead and wouldn't cross it. I tried everything, ignoring it and trotting across, even resorted to treats but no he had to be carried. If I put him down in the middle he just stood and shook. I asked my vet about it and he
just said Who Knows, lol, which is probably true. Anyway about a month later out of the blue Danny he just ran across, and never looked back.
I hope he'll be like that with the rainbow Bridge that he will soon be crossing.
Sorry to make this a downer but couldn't help it. 😞

Mrgrizz I was thinking Most likely Something must have happened to him for sure for him to be reacting this way.. Chances are he has ran in excitedly & slipped & hurt him self ..Then associated the pain with the floor and become afraid..I once watched an episode with Ceaser Milan ( The dog whisperer) He had a dog with a simular problem ...He always handles these situations with positive rewards for the dog..The dog that had the problem in the episode was gently & calmly coaxed slowly in the door by ceaser who remained sitting on the floor inside with him..He repeated this over & over until the dog once again had confidence re instored..I dont know if it will help you but probably worth a try ..
