quiting smoking

Have been a 20 pack a day smoker

For nearly 40 years and stopped cold turkey

On Monday

So have made it 4 days without a smoke

Feel like I am going crazy

And don't want to go near a shop for a while

Until I feel safe to avoid the impulse to buy

A packet

Not easy that's for sure

Re: quiting smoking

another reformed smoker here. 5 years smoke free, gave up cold turkey. I smoked for 30 years a pack a day. I had a real rough time with insomnia, whilst giving up for the first 3 months it was just horrible barely getting 2-4 hours sleep a night. In hindsight I should have gone to doctor for help but I didn't I toughed it out. Each day the cravings get less and less. The hardest thing was not knowing what to do with my hands, which then created another problem.........eating. So watch out for that. My doctor said giving up smoking is no different than giving up any other drug.

I wish you luck, You will be so much healthier in the long run.

3 years smoke free. I got help from my doctor and went on Champix. Sometimes I smoke in my dreams and when I wake up my fingers are in the smoking position.

Good luck and dont drink, its a trigger.

So now I dont smoke or drink......boring lol

Re: quiting smoking

hang in there op- it will get better- promise.

another reformer, but it was so long ago, I cant even remember how bad it was giving it up.

But I DO know I would never smoke again...

One thing I did was to squeeze lemon juice into water and keep it in the fridge..every time I felt like smoking, I would have a glass of lemon juice water instead..it also stopped me from reaching for food, especially sweet things- another bonus is my skin looked really clear..

Good luck, and good on you- one day at a time, and it will get better..

Re: quiting smoking

I'm trying to tough it out as you

Said

Without gum or patches or eating

More to compensate

But if I feel I'm caving before I do

I will go see a doctor.

I really don't want to smoke

Again.

Re: quiting smoking

I have been suckling on a mentos

When the urge gets to bad

Or just get up and walk around

Go outside and talk to the dogs

One night I went to bed at 6.00 pm

Just so I didn't have to think about it

Trouble with that I woke up at 1.00am

And couldn't sleep for the rest of the night

Re: quiting smoking

Opmania, ask your Doc for Champix tablets. I'm assuming that you can get them in Oz. They are the only medication that helps smokers to quit, and can only be obtained by prescription.

Regarding the cash you will save, this is evident by the amount of money you have in your pocket/purse when you get ciggies bought for you on occasions like birthdays, Christmas, etc. You think where is all this extra lucre coming from ? Then you think, well it's coming from not buying the weed.

Good Luck. Stick at it.
