I've always thought the pilot was bribed to deliver the plane to ?. While certain countries might be able to obtain a nuclear weapon, delivering them to their target is an even bigger problem. A passenger airliner can fly into any country easily...with the proper transponder signal. Easily forged.
Load the plane with a nuke, reprogram the transponder to that of a plane it's going to replace, shoot that one down over open waters...the switch is made and you fly the nuke in nice and easy.
Flight 370 spotted over the Maldives Islands....
On a remote island in the Maldives, residents claimed they saw a "low flying jumbo jet" the same morning that the Malaysia plane disappeared, according to the website of the Maldivian news outlet Haveeru.
Residents on the isle of Kuda Huvadhoo in the Dhaalu Atoll gave a description that matched the commercial airliners: white with red stripes, according to the news outlet.
"I've never seen a jet flying so low over our island before. We've seen seaplanes, but I'm sure that this was not one of those. I could even make out the doors on the plane clearly," an unidentified eyewitness said, according to Haveeru. "It's not just me either, several other residents have reported seeing the exact same thing. Some people got out of their houses to see what was causing the tremendous noise too."

Yeah I don't trust a lot of the info we get through the media either.
And it's possible, can't be ruled out.
However with the spy technology nowadays, countries know much more about one another than they let on making it virtually impossible to commence anything on a large scale quietly.
Also what could Iran hope to achieve with only one delivery, they would be shot out of the sky before they could anywhere near anything significant? Would have been much easier to seize several of Iran Air jets instead.
I just can't go past the pilots problems of that week. I think that is where the mystery lies.

Right, but "they'd" have to have a specific point to look at. And no one was looking north, plus it was long over due before they looked at all.

What did "they" hope to achieve on 9/11, or the hundreds/thousands of other individual attacks?
Maybe just a group in iran atm, or any of those countries in that region. Not an official government action, but a terrorist group. That's their MO...avoids being able to blame a specific country.

His problems weren't all that serious. But even if he had a death wish...why do it the way he did? Why not just gain altitude and then take a nose dive?
