"Pornography is Immoral"

Does porn objectify and degrade women? Is it also objectifying and degrading to men?

Would the world be a better place without pornography?

Argue for or against.

No, the other day six juvenile punks burst into my bedroom, refused to uncuff me from the bed, and forced me to watch the  UFC

Go figure.

Are you asking if pornography objectifies and degrades the men and women who perform it, or men and women in general? Are you including written pornography?

When I was younger, I may have argued that it was fine. Even maybe there were occasions where it did make my world a better place! But as is the case with many things, time and change alters one's perspective. I find the world a little unnerving at the moment. There are many disturbed minds out there, and some of them are on the edge. I would prefer their hormone levels not be intensified by the internet.

Personally, I'm not all that interested in the moral question, so I'll but out. But I do wonder if it can arouse some of those disturbed minds to the point that they do spill over the edge?

Yes it is degrading to both men and women. The participants are being exploited even though they may not think they are.

The world would be better without pornography. People would seek intimate satisfaction in reality.

I'd say that I am not for pornography. I think it harms people in their subconscious.

Well the thought is that porn may affect how a man thinks of women such that they'll start to see other women in real life as sex objects and can treat them like they were in the movie. Although I don't ever hear anyone whinge that porn denegrates or objectifies men. Double standard?? And why are men under pay compare to women in the porn industry? gender inequality?

Wouldn't porn have the opposite affect of instead of them "spilling over the edge" it provides them with an outlet hence they're less likely to committ sexual crimes in real life?

Why is it that the countries with the strictest rules against porn are also the ones that affords women with the less liberty?

Your reply has very much confused me Bob.

So the thought is porn may affect men to see women as sex objects, but they privately use it as an outlet and therefore are less likely to sexually assault the sex objects? I note you didn't provide an analogy for women!

What about:

Child pornography

Animal pornography

Bondage pornography

Incest pornography

Feminist pornography

and Snuff pornography (murder)

I understand all of these types of pornography are readily available on the internet and are very popular. Anyone with the internet can access the pornography.

As I stated, there are many disturbed minds out there and some are on the edge. Do you really think such people will watch this stuff and only desire to satisfy their needs in private or with their partner, if they have one? If your answer is "yes", then I'll have to disagree with you.

No, I think prostitution and brothels may provide an outlet - porn would provide the urge.

I am glad someone brought up the range of pornography.

I don't think we're always comparing apples to apples. You might have some movies with very light pornography with paid actors, all the way down to child and animal pornography with very unwilling subjects and in my opinion they are an abomination.

As for snuff movies, we're looking at very disturbed minds.

I once read about a case where a person featured on a snuff movie. They volunteered to, they must have met up with a like minded person on a private website. They volunteered to have body parts cut off and eaten. Eventually they died. The argument was given that they had volunteered so no harm done. My argument would be that just because someone's mind was so disturbed they asked to be mutilated and harmed, that didn't give anyone else the moral right to carry it out.

Australia as a society has pretty relaxed standards about a lot of things (compared to some other countries) but we should draw a sharp line for some practices and I would hope that extreme pornography involving kids, animals, murders etc stays illegal.
