Prominent atheist and academic Richard Dawkins has found himself in the middle of a Twitter firestorm after claiming that some types of rape are “worse” than others.

The backlash on Dawkins’ comments was powerful and swift. Some twitter users accused the 73-year-old of being “a danger to women”, others urging him to “go away and learn compassion”.

Shami Chakrabarti, a spokesperson from The End Violence Against Women Coalition, toldThe Telegraph that his words were “not merely ignorant but extremely offensive”.  “I know there are men of a certain generation who just clunk around on this subject but it’s really not good enough. It sends a very bad signal."

Of course some are worse.

1. Violent attack wtih physical harm and rape.

2. Boy and girlfriend, she is 15 so he is charged with rape.

The New York State Penal Law provides for the following possible penalties for the various classifications of sexual assault offenses:

Class B Felony - Imprisonment for 5 to 25 years
Class C Felony - Imprisonment for 3 1/2 to 15 years
Class D Felony - Imprisonment for 2 to 7 years
Class E Felony - Imprisonment for 1 1/2 to 4 years
Class A Misdemeanor - Imprisonment for up to 1 year
Class B Misdemeanor - Imprisonment for up to 3 months

Are you saying that you cannot see the difference between, let's say husband forcing his wife to have sex when she said "not tonight", and brutal gang rape with knife held to the woman's throat?   Or rape of small children whose insides are irreparably damaged.  That is NOT dismissing anybody's suffering.

It sounds as you are the one who does not understand.

They are all rape and all the same. The wife who says no, but who is forced against her will is no less raped.

So you are saying that husband who has sex with his wife, who did not really feel like it, should get the same sentence as man who brutally rapes a woman with knife to her neck?  Or somebody who rapes a small child?

If you think that then you must also think that long term affect on victims in all the above mentioned circumstances is the same. 

I do not need to watch a movie to understand what it feels to be violated; I had a husband who thought he has the right...  But for me to think that what has happened to me is in any way comparable to the rapes that European women suffered as POW in hands of the Japanese, or victims of gang rapes, or other atrocities, that is just ludicrous.  And would be grossly disrespectful and self indulgent.
