I agree, Lion.

It's really not the dogs, fault. Dogs are dogs and their natural instinct is to kill for food.

It's the the racing industry and the trainers that exploit these natural instincts to get the maximum profit from the animals.

It's cruel on the dogs and it's cruel on the animals used for bait and it should be banned.

And I know there'll be a huge outcry about the livelihood lost to those in the racing industry, but we don't use horses to pull carts anymore either.

All the people I've ever known train greyhounds have had other occupations as well.

I'm surpised the GH racing hasn't died off years ago when all the old timer trainers died off.

The denials of those involved in the industry (from the top down) make me sick to my stomach.

The cruelty of the greyhound racing industry is well know, and completely ignored.

My first experience of it was over thirty years ago.

Evelyn Cleary (the cat rescuer), a journalist and myself lay in wait hiding in bushes at night at fenced park in Manly NSW.

This park is now an aquatic centre.

We filmed greyhounds being live bated with declawed cats.

It went into the press and nothing was done about it in spite of our protests.

Everyone in the industry is ffully aware of the cruelty practices....but ignore them.

You obviously have no idea how many ppl depend on that industry. Just off the top of my head:

The breeders and trainers.

the track owners - bookies

The facility providers

the TAB and it's employees.

I'm sure there's more.

Greyhounds are not the mainstay of the racing industry.  

The bookies make more off horses, as do the facilities and the TAB.  

Hence my question, about how many are full timers compared to part timers in Greyhounds.

The few trainers I knew died and left their kids their land which was promptly subdivided.

Although heavily into GHs they also had other sources of income, such as market gardens, farms or tradie businesses.

So that's how many ppl suck off the greyhound racing industry and and there' s probably more I haven't covered.

I was listening to a lady greyhound trainer on radio this afternoon crying at the prospect of the greyhound racing industry being shut down.

"oh how am I going to feed my dogs" etc...

Ok I get her distress. If the greyhound industry were to be shutdown it would mean a wholesale putting down of innocent creatures that have been bred in the name of profit through gambling.

Still, I think the industry should be shut down.

Don't get me started on the horseracing industry.

They should have no fine for this, but a long jail sentence.
