Yes, found one in the poolyard last month when I moved the pool umbrella, brown snake about 1m long, lifted the pavers holding the stand down and there he was, he slithered away and haven't seen him since.
Suburbia.......

A GRANDFATHER died yesterday after he was bitten on the hand by a snake at his north Queensland property.
Paramedics suspect the 62-year-old man was bitten by a brown snake or a taipan while walking through long grass on his property north of Townsville.
He was given first aid by his wife and granddaughter, who called emergency services at 8.56am after the man’s condition began deteriorating.
Paramedics tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene at Toolakea Beach, north of Townsville.
Attending critical care paramedic Michael Grainger said the incident was tragic and served as a reminder to be aware of snakes during the summer months.
“We did resuscitation as he needed lifesaving measures as soon as we got there but unfortunately we were unsuccessful in this instance,” he said.

There was a news story on the radio stating pets bitten by snakes this year has increased.
'Lort Smith Animal Hospital has had more than 20 snake bite cases this month already, which is the highest I've ever seen in my two decades as a vet,'
I am guessing the unusually warmer, dryer temperatures is bringing snakes in searching for water in backyards.
They can smell/taste water from a big distance.

T'hat's really scary that they're showing in suburbia now. I keep a bowl of water out in the yard for the birds but must go out there now and clear all the stuff I've got piled in the corners. Not worried for me but the dogs.

I think they are always around in suburbia but they generally keep to themselves, good ide to have the yard cleared though, then they don't make nests.
We have a very small courtyard and lawn area fenced off for the dog, we do sometimes get lizards and frogs but have never seen a snake in there, apart from green tree snakes and legless lizards.

I have been cleaning up junk around my farm in preperation for a field day and found a 1.2 mtr. brown sake under some roofing iron. Luckily it was a cool evening and he was a bit slow, so he has gone to heaven. I dont mind redbelly black snakes and I leave them be, but the browns are a bit too aggressive for my liking. My son nearly trod on a brown a few days ago. He was wandering down the street LOOKING AT HIS PHONE, like a normal teenager. The brown was sunning itself in the gutter and froze in fear as my son approached. Luckily a friend called out to the son just in time. I,m not sure who got the bigger suprise.

Snakes and pets definately don't mix that is for sure.
We live ina small country town but pretty close to the river , last year while walking down the street a brown snake was coming out of someones front yard and it was moving pretty fast i headed in to their house and got the man to come out as i was keeping watch to see where the snake went , needless to say it didn't last long.
