People under 30 who are unemployed will have to wait six months to be eligible for Newstart benefits, and will only be able to claim it for six months before the benefit is cut for another six months. This six-month cycle of getting benefits cut and returned will continue until someone gets a job or turns 30.

There was an announcement in the Budget about funding for scholarships or some sort of assistance for low income earners to attend Uni.
It will be harder though. Both my daughters (at Uni) got YA under a scheme that is no longer available ( the youngest one is still one it as she hard started on it when it was an option) that did not included parents income/asset test. They wouldn't get a look in now. They both worked as much as they could p/t so, YA was reduced if they earnt more, which is fair, the YA was there if they didn't get enough work too.

I have a student loan, it was $12,000 probably at least $15 000 now. I have never been able to get a full time job earning over the limit to have to start paying it back. Peanuts compared to most, especially double degrees, but still I would rather work & pay it back.

He definitely said scholarships Am but how many I don't know
Yes there will be extra scholarships but the government won't be paying for it. Yes I know that they made it sound as if it was all their good work. But the universities will have to fund the scholarships.
The universities will now have to put 20% of the additional revenue raised to create scholarship programs.
You know what THAT means? That university fees wil need to be even HIGHER in order to pay for that extra burden.

Well now you are going to be charged interest on it am. So if you don't pay it back it will increase not only by CPI but also by 6% each year.

The other thing about scholarships is this: as if the scholarships are going to be used for those who are disadvantaged. I doubt it. The scholarships (as most scholarships are now) will be used to entice top performing post grad students from one university to another in order to get higher research funding.
Scholarships are not there to help some kid in Sydneys western suburbs earn a degree.

Scholarships aren't advertised eliz-mums - they are gifted to those students that can return the highest revenue or kudos to an academic program.
If they are advertised then it simply means that the coures isn't worth anything.

I didn't defend anything
I asked for more facts as to when and why it would be applied.
If there is no employment in an area, then maybe they need to consider moving to an area where there uis employment. I know that's not disney, so don't dis that, but plenty from rural areas already do that, they head to "the big smoke" or to where there are jobs.
same as i would have tio do if I wanted to work in the snow fields
same as those working in mines do
same as kids who want a specific degree/course 9offered at a specific uni or school already do
as I said, I know it's not disney, but maybe that's what they have to do, and I know atm, that relocation assistance is available, and living away from home allowances etc
so please - i defended nothing
I asked for more info
