Not everybody hand feeds.
That's probably a good thing, as it does save wear and tear on the fingers... ha ha.
(But finger looks like bread... Or bread looks like finger... Or... Anyway... I bit it because it was there, and maybe I like hearing you say "Ouch!", ha ha).
Some of the cockatoos are, well, shy is a good word for it... ha ha.
They'd like the bread, but not if it means coming to me, to take it...
The bridge is above head height, and if they're standing on it, they can see me underneath.
So, I hold a piece of bread where they can see it - Here is a piece of bread...
Then slowly raise my hand - no sudden movements, it's not just a throwaway line, until I'm holding the bread above the line of the bridge, where they can see it.
I put the bread down slowly, then move my hand away, making sure that they can see that I'm moving away.
Softly, softly, even if there no "catchee monkey" involved, ha ha.
The bread is there, in plain view...
I've moved away...
They feel comfortable enough to come and get it...
Although usually it's a wild scurry over to the bread, grab it, then scurry away... ha ha.
