Not sure where you are getting your advice.

Martin, that sounds horrible.

There's no other way of putting it.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

That scruffy, grumpy old man bird who turned up yesterday liked it here enough to turn up again, today.

I thought he left in the late afternoon when some of the other birds departed...

I thought... ha ha...

Well after the other birds had gone, I put the possum's breakfast down, and he couldn't resist the urge to find out what was on the big table...

I cut raisin toast  slices into strips about a centimetre across because the possums find them easier to pick up and nibble on...

"This looks like bread..."...he said, picked up a strip of raisin toast, and tasted it... "This is Wonderful! bread", he said...ha ha....

He went on to demolish a strip and a half of raisin toast before he was distracted by something else that was obviously crying out for his attention... ha ha.

After about five minutes he decided that it was getting late, and that he should head off for bed... so he did... ha ha.

Given that I barely had time to get away from the table before he descended on it, I'm going to say that he feels a little more comfortable with me around, ha ha....

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

The old man bird was in again today.

He's been amusing himself finding spots on the bridges where he can bask in the afternoon sun ha ha...

I chucked some bread down for the currawongs during the afternoon, so he took it upon himself to come and investigate...

I didn't step away from the bread quickly enough, and that earned me a scowling, ha ha.

He probably wasn't much more than six feet away from me at the time...

Consider that yesterday he wouldn't have come within thirty feet of me, and the day before that it was an easy thirty feet, and then some...

I think he's becoming more confident... ha ha.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

What's a girl to do when the temperature soars to a Summery 28 degrees?

Susan 15 oct 19.JPG

Stretch out in the corridor, half way into the doorway and fall asleep... ha ha...

This is what the cockatoos can see from the pergola bridge, and from the hole in the pergola roof...

Understandably, on days like this, I get told that there's that there's a "Thing" in the possum house doorway... ha ha...

So I have to clamber up on a box and have a look, and then wisely pronounce that yes, it is, indeed, a "Thing" but I think that's sleeping and is probably quite harmless... ha ha.

That satisfies most of them, but there's always going to be one that sits in the garden and squeaks about it, no matter how many times I say "Yes, I know it's there, it's alright, stop squeaking..", ha ha.

I had to wait until getting up time this evening to work out who she is...

This is Susan...

Mother, and her little one, Luggage were in one of the other houses, and much to my surprise we had a guest...

Two guests, to be precise... ha ha.

A very new mother with a very new baby clinging to her for all it was worth, ha ha.

It's all happening, here... ha ha...

I'd taken the photo of Susan, and got out of the sunlight so I could see the screen on the camera - is the picture any good...? ha ha...

I put the camera inside, then stepped back up on the box to have a quick look at her...

She'd rolled over onto her back, and if it was possible, looked even cuter... ha ha.

But knowing my luck, if I'd gone back for the camera, she would've moved, again so I left her to it, ha ha...

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

I wasn't sure if I'd seen the old man bird around during the morning, so I put some finely cut up bread down for the wattlebirds...

Who probably never saw any of it, but the last of the scraps, ha ha...

I think I'd be safe in using an expression like "All over it like a rash..."... ha ha...

I'd barely put the bread down and the old man bird descended...

"My bread... Mine, Mine, All Mine!", ha ha...

The only surprise came, for me, in that he didn't wait for me to retreat to a "safe" distance...

Well, you know, if he feels safe and comfortable and happy then I'm not going to complain, ha ha.

There'll be a bit of rain this afternoon, and maybe tomorrow...

It's going to be interesting seeing how he copes with soggy bread, ha ha...

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Later in the afternoon I saw there was next to no bread left, outside, and there was a somewhat forlorn looking old man cockatoo sitting where the bread had been...

So I chopped up a couple of slices, took them out and chucked them on the ground...

This was good, but at the same time, not good...

I was standing too close to the bread... ha ha...

So the old man bird walked off into the garden and "hid" behind the undergrowth...

Okay, I can take a hint, ha ha... I walked away from the bread...

It's funny, but I don't recall ever seeing an old man cockatoo move so fast...ha  ha...

"My Bread!! My Bread!! Shoo, wattlebird, Shooo!! My Bread!!"... ha ha...
