Up onto the shelf goes the hand, closed, holding seed...

The bird stands there patiently,  then reaches out with a foot and grabs the back of my hand...

"I'm not silly, if I bite you, you'll tell me off... now get your hand out of the way...", ha  ha.

The birds spent the morning slightly agitated at the prospect of rain, and possibly a thunderstorm...

They're not big fans of thunderstorms...

It's been raining for about half an hour and three of them have been sitting by the back door politely asking if there's any food available yelling at me...

Forget the rain, we have priorities! ha ha...

It's a good day for reviewing the list of things I couldn't get around to doing, earlier...

Either I couldn't see because it was so hot that the sweat was dripping off my eyelids, or it was so wet that that I couldn't see for the rain dripping off my eyelids., ha ha.

But now it's fine...

And windy, very windy.... but I won't let all that dust that's being stirred up, and getting in my eyes, stop me from at least looking at the list... ha ha.

I must have a look and see if I bothered to keep the "paperwork" that would have come with those brown plastic "garden waste" bags...

Just out of curiosity... does it say anywhere that they're not UV, or sunlight, resistant?

Because they're not... ha ha.

I picked the bag up... and the contents stayed where they were... ha ha.

Isn't that convenient? It happened right when I was in the mood to make a sarcastic comment about having to clean up... for a second time... ha ha.

I think I'm meant to read "This bag is reusable" as "Fill it, empty it on the same day, then store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight...", as opposed to "Take it for granted that it can sit out in the garden for the next month and everything will be fine", ha ha.

And then, as I sat down to take a bit of a breather, the "20% chance" of "a brief evening shower" turned up... at least it lived up to the promise, and was brief, ha ha.

I'm a little bit tired of the rain's smarty pants attitude... Day after day in that stinking heat I lugged watering can after watering can of water around the garden, hoping, if nothing else, to at least stop things wilting, if not outright dying...

After one day of rain, everything looks as fresh as a daisy, ha ha... It's just not fair.... ha ha.

Sure enough, I drew the curtain this morning and there was the old man bird, "having a sleep" on the bridge opposite the window...

He must be a very light sleeper.... the curtain was barely half way across the window and he was already awake and ready  for breakfast to face the day, ha ha...

Here, have some food on this little shelf, I said, and I'll top up the water dish next to it while I'm here...

I'd barely put the watering can down and there were three other birds with him, on the shelf, the postage stamp sized shelf... ha ha.

Predictably enough, he got pushed off the shelf and landed  with an audible "plop" on the ground...

He looked up at me and said "I'm okay... is there any more food?", ha ha.

That poor little possum... I know I've said it before... Climbs out of Mum's pouch into heatwave conditions, promptly has to endure the rain, and the thunderstorms, and then today comes along... 5.5 degrees overnight, and looking for a high 20's day... Did you want variety, little one? ha ha.

I had the ladder up against the house yesterday afternoon... "Occupational Health and Safety Cockatoo" told me that it was potentially a hazard, and that I should lie it down on the ground...

Not flat, because that would obstruct the walkway, and make trouble in itself... "Prop it up, on it's side... Just there, that's good..; Now we can perch on it...", ha ha.

Powdered "Rehydtration" drinks... "Sports drinks - just add water...

What a great idea.. instead of carrying a drink, carry enough water for a drink, and a sachet of "Just add water" crystals...

There's no guarantee that it won't taste like a combination of soluble aspirin and Sunlight soap, with just a hint of "Mango Chutney Surprise" or whatever flavour it purports to be... ha ha.

I don't care what you say, I'll stick to plain water, thanks... ha ha.
