the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

This is a thread with no particular

Topic so no one can be off topic 🙂

So if anyone out there has something

To say about anything you like now

Is your chance

Keep it clean

And be nice

See how long that lasts

Can we keep politics and religion out

Of the conversation

I know i've said that there are times when life goes past at about the same pace as a treacle race, on a cold day, but sometimes it can be interesting, too...

The baby cockatoo decided not to go home this evening, but went to sleep, instead, on the side of the platform that Takeaway's breakfast is on.

This is a recipe for a potentially awkward situation...

Takeaway woke up, looked out of the doorway of her house, and saw the bird.

Then she went back inside.

After a couple of minutes she emerged and slowly, and very carefully, she walked along the bridge towards her breakfast, and the slumbering cockatoo, before pausing and looking at me as if to say "When I suggested something special, different, as a bit of a treat, with breakfast, this isn't what I meant...".

Very carefully, she approached the cockatoo and sniffed it a few times. It slept on, or did a very good impression of being asleep, ha ha.

She started on breakfast, keeping one eye on the slumbering form, not more than a hand's width away from her.

She even managed to show her composure by not flinching when the bird made a squeaking noise.

We all ignored that because, of course, we all know that the bird Was asleep at the time...LOL.

She finished breakfast and went and ate a little of what Donny had left, of hers, then headed off into the rain.

And the bird slept on, ha ha.

I checked on him a couple of hours later. He'd moved about two inches to his left. The roof must be leaking, again.

For reasons which I will never quite fathom, the bird decided to stay for the night, and the possum, though a little nervous, was otherwise quite comfortable with him there.

They surprise me. They do things which are unexpected.

Possums and cockatoos don't generally mix well. Their first instinct is that the "other" is some form of predator, and things go downhill pretty fast, from there.

Seeing these two, together, was something pretty special.

I'll have to remember not to say "Good girl, good girl, it's okay" to her in a soothing voice for about the next fifteen years, as I'm sure I used up my quota of sounding reassuring, this evening, ha ha.

The baby cockatoo didn't make it through the night.

He'd looked out of sorts, the last couple of days, but I put that down to the rain, and the cold.

Maybe that was a contributing factor, I don't know.

Anyway, today I had to bury a friend.

When the clouds clear enough I will look at the stars and remember him, and he, sitting there, will smile upon me, remembering in turn that we were chapters in the stories of each other's lives.

He dwells now with his Ancestors, and he is in good company.

Down the end of my street is a big gum tree, and all
around on the ground below, are pine cones. Looks
like they have been through a shredder. Not a pine
tree in sight. Wonder how they got there?

Hmm... Pine cones, under a gum tree? How could that be? Ha ha.

They can be very resourceful, and clever birds.

🙂

Yellow tail black cockatoos are the only birds that eat pine cone seeds here.
It would be interesting to find out what is eating them where you are, lollieman
