the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

This is a thread with no particular

Topic so no one can be off topic 🙂

So if anyone out there has something

To say about anything you like now

Is your chance

Keep it clean

And be nice

See how long that lasts

Can we keep politics and religion out

Of the conversation

Dear ecar, it is so good to see you back here again, thankfully, all in one piece back from your journey to the roof.

Breakfast... Hmm... Apparently I didn't bring "The right food"... ha ha.

I was, quite literally, followed by a pigeon around the garden, our little walk punctuated at about five second intervals by the pigeon saying "Hoo!", just to remind me that one, it was there, and two, I hadn't brought the right food, ha ha.

It was overcast here, today.

Gloomy... that's a good word for it... ha ha.

But in spite of that, the ever iridescent "I can't hear myself over my own magnificence" neon blue glowing wren turned up, ha ha.

Closely enough followed by Mrs Wren, and their daughter "I'm not half the size of my parents anymore... More like three quarters the size of them... Don't we grow up fast?", ha ha.

And should I mention the "helpful" cockatoo? ha ha.

"I'm going to stand here on the roof side of the gutter, pick twigs out and drop them over the edge, one by one... I'm being helpful...", ha ha.

Given a couple of months I think we'll have the gutters cleared, no worries... ha ha.

🙂

Sometimes in the early evenings the cockatoos and possums would reenact great air battles of the Second World War for my entertainment... ha ha.

Breakfast...

I made it half way round the garden before being bailed up...

"Hoo... Hoo!... Hoo... Hoo!...", ha ha.

I can just imagine those stubby little pigeon legs doing overtime as it ran from one end of the garden to the other, having noticed that I'd stepped outside, to get to the end of the path before me... ha ha.

It takes planning to work out where to stand where the path curves, so that you're out of sight, and, at the right moment you can nonchalantly step out and say "Oh, you're here...", ha ha.

The Other breakfast of the day... This time without the pigeon... ha ha (Or should I say Hoo! Hoo!, ha ha... Oh now it's just getting silly... ha ha).

Mum possum walked over the short bridge to the big table...

She stopped with her front feet on the table, and with the bulk of her still on the bridge...

"Food... Mmm... Good food.... I shall eat this food...".

Well and good, after all, it's breakfast... ha ha.

Her little daughter, dutifully trotting along behind Mum didn't think it was such a good thing...

"Mum... You're in the way...", ha ha.

She clambered over Mum's tail... not an easy task, and finally made it to the table...

One mouthful... Two mouthfuls... Three mouthfuls...

And... ha ha.

Mum suddenly jumped up and said "What's that over there? Quickly, we must hurry away!"...

Poor little girl possum...

Breakfast might be the most important meal of the day, but apparently other things are even more important, ha ha.

They did make it back, after a bit...

This time they came down the ramp, which is, incidentally, much the same width as the short bridge...

And has the same "easily blocked" attributes... ha ha.

Mum stopped at the bottom of the ramp with most of her on the table, but with a sufficient amount of her behind, if you'll excuse the pun, still on the ramp blocking access.

Her daughter, having suffered an interrupted breakfast once, was not about to let the opportunity to feed pass her by...

This time she climbed over Mum...

Sometimes dignity has to take a back seat to practicality, ha ha.

The wrong end of dusk was settling in...

Even the currawongs had headed home for the night when a lone cockatoo arrived in the big tree...

He shouted "I'm scared!"...

He might as well have shouted "Black forest cake!"... my grasp on cockatoo is still very shaky, ha ha.

What made me think I should go and have a look was his tone...

He was genuinely scared...

A youngish cockatoo, who has probably never slept away from the flock in his life, finds himself on the cusp of darkness, facing a night alone... Of course he's scared...

I wandered out the back for a look, thinking I'd end up staring at a bird in a tree and maybe muttering something about shouldn't it be going home... ha ha.

He saw me from the tree, and didn't so much gracefully glide down into the the garden as very nearly fall from the tree and plummet like a bowling ball... ha ha.

He landed on the roof with a thump, then picked himself up and walked over the pergola roof to the bridge, crest up, nodding his head - he's excited...

He's very excited...

Seeing me is like having the last five Christmases, and the next five, all rolled into one, all coming at once, excited... ha ha.

I'm going to take it that he was happy to see me, ha ha.

He got about half way across the bridge and stopped, stood as tall as he could and turned his head slightly...

I saw the flicker of recognition on his face...

He could hear the chatter, the late evening murmur of the flock at roost....

The next moment, he was gone, off over the treetops, croaking and wheezing...

He Was scared...

But not anymore... He'd found his family...
