I was belted by one of the first, humiliated by the second, bashed by the third.
Respect has nothing to do with it, except that the abusers have no respect for the abused.

was never bashed by my Parents, Teachers, or the Police, think mainly because I respected all three, just up bringing I suppose.
Respect or feared, Respect is hard earned, what has the police done to earn your respect, do you respect them for the things they have done to me? fear is beating out of someone, I fear the police when the approach, I couldn't respect them no matter how hard I try.
That was NOT my intent with my answer. I would not choose to live in a country where most people have a gun in their handbag.
Handbags can be snatched, taken, I tell my friends who carry concealed to never have their weapon in their purse. If I was to carry at all it would be open carry, uasally in a holster on my side, because the permit required to conceal carry is unconstitutional.

Yes, I remember the old days that were so great. Parents bashed you. Teachers bashed you. Coppers bashed you but that wasn't antisocial. Yes please let's bring back thebashings because now I'm the one that can get ti dish it out. Have a list already. You appear to have deluded yourself into thinking that wholesale violence against those that do not do as you wish is good. Very strange indeed
Where did I say that people should be bashed? Behaving appropriately has nothing to do with being bashed.
In any case nobody is taking away your freedom to own a firearm. But here in Australia it is not your right to own one, but privilege, and you have to show that you are a responsible person deserving that privilege. Just like to get a driver's licence you need to pass test - you need to show that you are reliable person who can be trusted with deadly weapon. Or do you think that it is unfair that drivers have to be licenced, and cars have to be licenced?
I have no problem for farmers and other people who have a purpose, to own guns. I even think that hunting in order to cull animals in national parks is the right things to do, provided the hunters are responsible people; but I am concerned about gung ho drunken yahoos shooting at anything that moves.
By the way, I also owned a firearm and had a shooters' licence, until I moved to the city.

It's a natural right, a God given right, a human right, no matter where you are. It's a right that can't be taken, only violated..
Sure, it's outlined in the US bill of rights under the 2ed amendment, but it's not a privlege, not something our government gives us, it's ours to exersize, or give away if we choose. and it's fine if any given person wants to choose that for themselves, but don't push others to do likewise, some of us value our rights.

Oh, wanted to mention. Hunting, think about how we have seasons for it now and one must get a permit and deer tags even on your own land, ect. This is something that humans did to survive before grocery stores and supermarkets. Taking a natural right and trying to make us believe it's a privladge. Go arrest the tigers and lions, big cats in Africa for not having a permit to hunt or hunting out of season, yeah, just go put those cuffs right on them. lol..

Had you read on further before replying....................... I have agreed that they may have found another way........... my other younger cousin also found a rope.
The thing is, I have aunts, nieces and nephews and cousins who found them.............some as young as 5 yo. That's the trauma I was talking about.
I know what I am talking about, just as you do.
and youngest grandson also lost a good friend last year, he drove his car into a tree a high speed.
people will always find a way.
The thing is that pulling te trigger is very easy - IF you have a firearm handy. All the other methods take bit more preparation, which gives time to think and maybe change your mind.
about as easy as getting in a car and driving off a cliff or into a tree, no preparation needed for that.
