I didnt find it "woeful" at all, quite the opposite ................ perhaps you watched/listened a different rendition to me?

I was lucky enough to have missed Lady Gaga, but unlucky enough to hear yet another singer anxious that their version of that much abused Hymn 'Amazing Grace' should be the one that is most remembered with a shudder!
Whoever wrote that comletely missed the significence of that performance. The singer was not a professional singer, but a young, frontline Covid nurse, who brought hope and inspiration to her patients and fellow workers by singing as she went about her job. Her rendition of Amazing Grace was posted online and went viral as people responded to her courage and resillience. That was why she was invited to sing at the inauguration.

And come to think of it (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe that rendition was not, in fact, sung at the inauguration, but at the memorial service for Covid victims - where it was absolutely appropriate.

Garth Brooks sings ‘Amazing Grace’ for Biden inauguration
Ah, so maybe it was that performance being referred to, not the one at the memorial service. Thanks for that.

I don't know how anyone could say this was a poor rendition... I thought it was brilliant

One thing most people are bad at is hiding their biases. Their true feelings sneak through in little comments. Personally, I don't mind people having different opinions. But I reserve my right to laugh when the bias opinion is so transparent that it is only laughable.
