Self Pardon - is doubtful - he can call on Pence - to invoke the 25th - meaing Pence would be in a position to - Pardon Trump - then Trump again takes ' control '.

Then again, Trump sent the mob into the Capitol chanting "hang Pence", do you think that Pence will be trying to safe Trump?  The FBI notified the WH about the chatter between QAnon people and other groups about exactly what they were planning (to kill people), and Trump did not beef up the Capitol security.  He watched what was going on on TV and still did not send re-enforcements.  .

Are the " proud-boys " outlawed ? seems to a me a dangerous group

Not a reply to david, just a general comment.Smiley Happy

I'm wondering if we are all focussing on the wrong things. Forget Trump just for a second. I know, I know, it is all Trump this and Trump that but in broad terms, his office is over and he won't be in power for the next 4 years. We need to start focussing on just who will be in power, what their policies will be and where USA is heading next.

Everyone seems to think that anyone will be better than Trump but I would not be handing the new admin a get out of jail free card. It will bear watching.

It will bear watching, but I hope people watch for the right things. Trump has left a divisive, angry and violent country ravaged by Covid-19. Relationships between the USA and some other countries have been damaged. The soul of the American people has been battered by an egomaniacal narcissist. America is not "great".

Biden has a mammoth job on his hands. He will not be able to fix things quickly. The American people need to judge him objectively and watch out for the hidden forces intent on bringing him down. They don't care about America. American's need to watch the directions taken by Biden and determine if they are the right directions to revive the country's reputation as a global role model. I'm guessing most reasonable people are hoping this will happen.

Washington 'like a warzone' with Biden inauguration just hours away (msn.com)

That is a really bad look - armed soldiers in cammo -  my opinion is better when dealing with a vast majority of peaceful civilians with a possibilty of violence is dress uniform but with bayonets attached and at strict attention not bumbling around

Dress uniform looks less threatening to peaceful citizens and lends more formality to civilian guard duty - particularly Presidential

" go ahead , enter the capitol building "

looks classy , innoculous to the peaceful, and no hotheads are going to mess with them - and preserves the sight of baggy cammo indicative of clear violence events

I didn't watch the ceremony but at one stage heard a woeful rendition of the American national anthem coming from the TV in the next room. (not sure if it was the inauguration or what it was from).

Just reading facebook, the overwhelming reaction though amongst my English friends is the ceremony was dreadful. The American friends though are raving about it.

These are some of the comments from the English side:

Am I alone in finding Presidential Inaugurations, with their mix of religious preaching, over the top patriotism and and the apparent desire of speakers to so outdo each other in passion that they will be remembered as the star of the show, so tacky that is is like wading through spilt molasses?

I was lucky enough to have missed Lady Gaga, but unlucky enough to hear yet another singer anxious that their version of that much abused Hymn 'Amazing Grace' should be the one that is most remembered with a shudder!

Pomp and ceremony, we are the experts!

I thought it was a case of one-upmanship from start to finish. Even with the restrictions brought about by the pandemic it lost its gravitas for me. Whilst I wish Joe all the best for the future, he reminded me of me trying to impress my granddaughters at a family wedding by attempting to dance like John Travolta. It was embarrassing for all concerned. Just my thoughts.

For those of you who did see it, are the comments fair or not?
