What are we to make of the people who support or defend the violence and killing that took place in the US Capitol? Are they just as disturbed as the insurgents, or misguided in themselves? Is it their minds, personalities, or both?

There's no use thinking a crime has been committed. Its up to the prosecution to prove it and in this case they have failed. Justice relies on the premise of Innocent until proven guilty. If society abandons this basic tenant out of partisan hate for Trump, society is the lessor for it. There are more important issues at stake here than Trumps behaviour. ( despite what the baying lynch mob think )

Chamleon wrote: the Democrat prosecution have been unable to pin down a single incident that categorically proves his guilt, instead relying on a cut and paste video of small pieces, taken out of context to try to present a narrative

So in your opinion what was the context out of which those pieces were taken and what was the 'real' narrative?

Whatever the outcome, it could be a win/win. If he's impeached he won't be able to run for office again. If he's not, he may decide to start up his own party, which means the GOP stands to lose millions of voters at the next election.

And would the baying lynch mob  be the ones calling for Trump's impeachment or the ones calling for Pence to be hanged and providing a gallows on whih to hang him

You do realise this is an impeachment trial for serious misconduct while in office. It is not a court trial for allegations of committing a crime.

But you wrote, "I tend to think he knew what he was doing in inciting the mob."

If so, then let's hope justice is served.

Re: who will win? Trump or Biden?

sadly for ALL americans politics in the federal USA has become for at least one side an us against them at any cost

how could anyone have witnessed the events leading up to what happened on the 6th of january and not vote to impeach donald trump for inciting an attack on the capitol?

and yet we can see its just a matter of time before not enough republicans vote YES

the same republicans who were hiding in fear the mob trump sent to kill them would indeed succeed.

not even the fear of losing their lives will get them to 'do the right thing'

the party has so lost its way its no longer there to do 'the best for the country'

but there to destroy the country because they cant live with losing an election

lets hope this is one american ism that doesnt pop up in australia

They are both as moronic and irrational as each other.

One mob trashing Capitol hill in a show of disdain for the process of democratic elections and the other attempting to trash the very foundations of democracy and constitutional process by demanding the conviction through impeachment of a President when there is not enough evidence to do so.

So you didn't bother to read NFS's post, pointing out that it's not a criminal trial?

The American senate is trying the holder of the highest office in the land of some of the most serious charges imaginable against the  institutions that are the foundation of the American Democracy.

Just because the trial is taking place in the senate rather than a court and the judge, jury and executioner are politicians rather than expertly trained judges are you and others seriously suggesting the result should not be based on the very highest standards of evidence, rather than hearsay and emotion ?

If that truly is your position, God help global democracy because no one else will be able to..

Re: who will win? Trump or Biden?

What is being missed here.

Impeachment - is not a ' legal trial '.

The Dems have all the evidence need to convict - all the evidence necessary - but it will not get past the Senate.

Evidence or no Evidence.

The best they can hope for is - Impeachment for the second time - History - and the hope that this will prevent HIM from ever running for public office - EVER.
