to justify slavery.
20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard.
21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.
22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside
24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him
,25 he said,"Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.
"26 He also said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
27 May God extend the territory of Japheth; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be...
And slave owners were using those verses from Exodus to justify keeping slaves long before Darwin's time. The slave trade was abolished in England 1807 - two years before Darwin was born and 40 years before he published Origin Of Species.

I seem to remember - I think it was the British Museum (so one would think scientist worth their salt) that they had a dinosaur assembled and on display in the museum for many years.
Subsequently they found it was back to front???
sorry .... it had the wrong head on it - a head from another site.

your point is what that people use the word of God to justify anything they want. isn't that the point of view I have always taken? do you have the geneolgy to prove who they are and thus are allowed to be slaves? or are you jumping on the false belief that European slave traders and those in the deep south of America etc believed that God turned their skin black.
hang on if God turned there skin black, that's a miracle, that means there is a God.

If you have read the bible. God is in support of slavery. It teaches to beat them but not too hard. Even Jesus supported it.
BTW, I really think Gav is just playing with us. He doesn't actually believe what he is saying here.

still up Bob?
while we're on the subject of Mormon - they considered the black races as cursed... it's in their book - you know the one - translated from those mysterious tablets. Of course they may have become a little more PC recently - I think.

for those who are following this thread - the issue of slavery was so important to God that he dedicated one whole book of the bible to the subject. it is the only book in the bible that covers a single topic, it is also the smallest book in the bible [half a page] would take a minute to read - I believe He did this on purpose so that there could be no excuses on what to do on the subject. read it yourselves, its the book of Philemon.

Do you think Mormonism is a Myth?

why do atheists feel the need to talk about God all the time?
Hands up how many people here have ever had an atheist knock on their door or stop them in the street trying to convert them.
You don't have Buddhists knocking on your door trying to covert either. Although I did see a group of Buddhists Monks having a street stall the other week. They were in their red and orange robes and being very polite. And they provided 'entertainment' too, doing those sand mandala's.

GO: "For those who are following this thread - the issue of slavery was so important to God that he dedicated one whole book of the bible to the subject."
GO. your diety was an author? (publisher maybe?) But it is alleged of only one book, and a driving manual only.
When does the sequel come out? Do the ten commandments count?. In binary they would be far more impressive: The 1010 Commandments, imagine the quarrying that would have required!
