I seem to remember - I think it was the British Museum (so one would think scientist worth their salt) that they had a dinosaur assembled and on display in the museum for many years.
Subsequently they found it was back to front???
And that's the whole point.
Evolutionary scientists test their hypotheses and correct their misconceptions,
Religious fundamentalists believe there has never been any possibility of a mistake, so accept without question teachings that were written down thousands of years ago.

I see. So it wasn't a subscription at all - it was a magazine.
I just rang a JW friend of mine to check - they don't SELL anything - they give their magazines / books away free and have done for many years.
So, "can't stand people ...... trying to sell give me a subscription to a free religious magazine.".
Glad we cleared that up :-x
My apologies, I was so disinterested in what they were saying and so peed off that people came knocking on my door at the weekend for this type of thing that my wording was incorrect.

it took them over 100 years to find it out - that's the point I was making. And they didn't test it - they put it together and displayed it for 100 years, hundreds of books have included the Stegosaurus with it's wrong head. According to what I read last night, It was only by sheer luck that someone discovered it.
any Christian worth their salt, questions teachings - that's why the Protestants split from the Catholics in the first place - and why there are continual updating of the teachings as new scrolls / more accurate means of translating have become available. It's only some religions that say they are infallibe.

And when they did discover that someone had fixed the the wrong head onto it did that prove it wasn't a really a stegasaurus, and therefore evolution was only a myth?

how many atheists does it take to change a light bulb?
none, as they are all outside screaming at the Christians.
Since when?
Why would they bother?
I haven't seen atheists outside any churches or anywhere else trying to scream down the Christians. The only time I've ever seen any debate is on qanda and that wasn't a case of screaming at Christians.

being an atheist does not mean you are not a Christian it just means you don't believe in a god.
How does that work?
I though Christianity was all about the belief in God.

They ask for a donation for the magazines and the ones that knocked on my door last would not leave mag without donation.

Warning - I'm back on my prednisone ]:).
So, let's just have a look at this then. What do you think their motives were? Why do you think these people make the effort to get dressed up and go out in the heat / cold / wet and drag themselves around for hours knocking on people's doors - knowing that 99% of people are going to be nasty to them or at the very least ignore them? What selfish motive do they have? Were they trying to make money? Do they get extra points for every person they convert? Or are they doing it out of love for the people and following Jesus' instructions to preach.
Anyway, all I am saying is, you wouldn't catch me doing it - just to be called names and belittled. I get on here sometimes and try to discuss stuff - I get told I am pushing my own beliefs - just imagine how they must feel after hours in the hot sun / freezing cold..

Rabbit, The title of this thread is 'why do atheists feel the need to talk about God all the time?' and I was simply pointing out that atheists never feel compelled to knock on the doors of stranger to share there non belief with them
I would never belittle those Christians who do go door knocking. I think they are sincere (and very brave) people who do it for the most honourable of reasons. When they come to my house I simply tell them politely that I never discuss religion at the door. I have never had anyone stick a foot in the door to prevent me closing it.

Motives - not sure but I believe it is to collect donations for which you are given a magazine.
Get dressed up - because it's Saturday, if they choose to weather the heat, cold, rain, snow, chill etc for the chance of getting the equivalent of a slap in the face shows they are either naïve and just don't understand that most people just don't want to be faced with this on a Saturday morning.
Motive - I think they believe we all should be a member of their particular religion, it's called recruitment.
Money - most definitely, no money, no magazine but I consider it to be no different to handing around the plate in any church.
They must be totally exhausted, disillusioned and wonder why they can't get their particular message through, I would not nor could do it.
