Catholic schools get government funding anyway? now university money is going towards private schooling. wth.
if Catholics want their own little private indoctrination schools- fine- but they should pay for them. fgs just call the Vatican.

Martini.... no funding to private schools.. will mean a huge overload on government schools.
Education, like health, transport and infrustructure generally, should be a load that the government carries.
Instead we have the appalling situation nowadays where private schools get more funding than our public ones. It's mindboggingly stupid.
I agree in principle Martini - but, could the government afford i without having to drop standards severely, and more importantly, could the taxpayers afford it.

Private schools DO NOT get more funding than public ones!
They get significantly less PLUS the kids in private school are still paying for their spot in the public system and not using it!

The public schools are going to get $12b
Catholic $1.5b
Independent $1b

One that they KNOW they cannot adequately cater for.

I don't have time to find the stats but Federal funding is less than half what the state schools get.... State funding adds a little more and the fees charged make up more, (then Catholic Education funds the rest.(I think))

So the Govt cuts funding to private schools. Private schools have to put their fees up to compensate, if they can survive at all.
Families with children enrolled there can no longer afford to send them to the private school.
Result: 100's or 1000's more students moving back into the Public School system.
How is that going to work?

It's call politicking. The Catholic church and private schools has more power than you think.
Could it be because the government needs to keep as many kids in private school as possible? Could it be because they know that if all those kids suddenly turned to the public sector for their education that the Government couldn't cope?

what is the ratio of public schools to private ? its only that basis you can judge funding on apart from factoring in fees. my friends kids cost around 3 and a half k per term each in fees. or over $10.000 a term. the boys want to be dancers 🙂

you can judge it per child funding... which is how it is done.
