I have a Razor Keyboard. I had a Black Widow one, but I have now exchanged it 4 times in the last year as the keys start double typing.
I'm not a gamer, I only use the keyboard for typing, (but I wanted one that glowed in the dark and that was the only sort the store had), so it's not as if I give my keyboards the thrashing that a hard core gamer would, annd at $190, it wasn't cheap!
Today, I talked the store into letting me try a different model - I've stuck with Razor, but this time I have one called Death Stalker. There was an option of a Logitech one, but I know SFA about tehnology so just stuck with what I had for now. I was thinking maybe it was just a bad batch or something?
Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on why this keeps happenning? It's getting kind of embarrassing having to go back to the store all the time.
Apart from that, my only gripe with the razor is that it is very noisy to type with.
or other suggestions?
I liked the keys on the Black Widow, raised rather than flat like a laptop
It must glow in the dark (back lit keyboard - preferably red, so it matches my PC LOL)
And it just needs to be able to type - I really don't need the wizz bang gaming features etc.
Thanks heaps.

You are right it's either mechanical or membrane.
He says razor mechanical or logitech are both good. Or Corsair mechanical, which he bought for around 100.
He also says most have it written if they are mechanical or not.
(The stalker prob used the same software already installed if they are both Razor products)

From a friends gaming son, stick with a mechanical keyboard as opposed to digital. (Last for ages and easy to clean)
Mechanical is also plug n play without having to install software.
(apparently some Razor products have probs)
If not for gaming he says any well known brand is fine. Most brands have backlit keyboards, maybe not in red.

hi tara, I just bought it from JB Hi Fi
Until last time, this was the only brand they stocked (that glowed in the dark). Last time they did have the Logitech one, ($180 - don't know the model) and this time they had the Logitech one, but also the Razor death Stalker.
BTW, I don't like the death Stalker as yet,
a) no head phone jacks in the keyboard and my PC is all the way over there <<<<<<<
b) the keys are flat like a lap top, whereas the Black Widow, they were kind of raised and curved so your fingers hit the keys easily and not two at a time LOL)
c) it's still really noisy
d) the lights aren't red LOL
On the good side though, the second function of keys is also back lit, whereas on the Black Widow they weren't so you kind of had to guess - but I solved this as I stole my son's mouse. It's in the shape of a Mini Minor - and it's headlights glow in the dark (bonnet was the left and right click thingy) so I could just aim its High Beams at the keys if I couldn't remember where the dollar or percentage sign were LOL

hi Kopes - I did do some research and found mechanical vs membrane - but didn't know about digital? When I asked my computer man today, he didn't know the difference - had a guess that a mechanical one pressed onto metal plate to register the key strokes whereas a membrane one pressed onto like a continuous pad under the key???/ (I think - )
How do I know which is which? It's not written on the box, I don't think?
On the Black Widow we had to install software, but on this one - the Stalker we didn't? Just plugged it in?
What's a well known brand Kopes? Around here, my choices seemed to be the razor or logitek - I did have another one initially, was only about $60 that a friend got for me - it was brilliant, but it got wet and spat the dummy, no idea what brand it was, but it came from Melbourne.
Do you think it would be possible for your friend to have a look on eBay or somewhere and show me one he recommends? please?
I really did like the Black Widow, maybe cos I was just used to it? (only had this one for a few hours) but it just kept breaking! The boy on the store (a gaming geek) said he had never had this complaint before, that I was the only one!

thanks kopes!
does he say if he's heard of any other problems with the Black Widow? I really did like that, but well....
definitely no software for the stalker.
I picked up some virus in the Mighty Viper that stripped everything! Including my Windows8 app page but all inside too. I ended up taking it to my computer guy, and it took him a week to find what it was! None of his virus doobies could find it (he sets up and maintains computers for businesses etc - he guided me in how to build the Viper) Malwarebytes picked up nothing - He had to get a u beaut virus zapper thingy (that's as techy as I get LOL) and then spent two days with microsoft about it??
I've had to reinstall everything.
he said he had never seen anything like it! of course, if it's unusual, I will find it LOL
so anyway, def no software for the stalker. I just plugged it in and off she went.

No, he merely says Razor have been known to have some probs but they also produce some extreme products so whether it's because some prods push the boundaries, he is not sure.
There have been some unusually stronger viruses going around in Aus in last 6 months.
Usually going back to a restore point can rid of problems but not this time, I have found a complete re-format is needed.
(Wipe everything and install everything again)
Many say AVG is a good free anti virus program. Good luck.

the boy at the store actually said it may have been because I wasn't using the keyboard enough! (as in for what the features on it were for)
sounded a bit weird to me
I mean, it's a keyboard, i type on it, and I'm not known for my economy with words LOLOLOL

Yeah but you're probably not up all night playing World of Warcraft or other MMOs.. $180 is a ridiculous price to pay for a keyboard just so it gows in the dark, ezpecially if you're not using it for gaming... Is it really neccessary that it glows in the dark?
Just go and buy one at Big W for $15
You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means
