black screen

Hi all

My desktop keeps reverting to a black screen..I have done a revert but it still changes to black after about an hour. This has never happened before. Anyone know what is causing it please...? I have a desktop comp.. Windows 7 home premium...

Re: black screen

Basically, windows needs to be validated within thirty days of installation, if it is not done right away, but you can get round that.

Do you have the product key? Then you can try to validate it.

That is why a fresh install would get you round the problem, but only for a little while.

If you have the key...if you do not, ask the guys you bought it from for the key and installation discs if you do not have those.

So three possibilities:

Product key to validate will fix

Repair could fix

Not genuine, will need to be purchased separately

Re: black screen

No product key sadly...The boys will take care of it. I have already emailed them and I will pop up there today or tomorrow and sort it out.At least I can still use my comp as per normal. I just have a black screen instead of blue...

Re: black screen

It's not uncommon to have windows preinstalled on a PC, but it is a bit odd that they would do it on a new PC when they're supposed to actually give you an OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) disc with the new PC.. AT the very least you should have gotten a Recovery disc should something happen..

One thing you could try if you don't want to go to your IT guys, is call up Microsoft support and tell them you may have been sold a computer with an illegal copy of windows. I have heard sometimes they will often send you a copy free of charge

Re: black screen

Hi , there should be a Windows key sticker on the case top or side - about the size of ones thumb and pastel coloured

This will have the oem Windows licence number (key) and also note the Windows version

this sticker grants the right to the owner / user to use the noted Windows version unless upgraded by a supported Windows license

My guess is oem Vista

If no key sticker , then should have been sold with a hardcopy package that includes a disk and key number

I suggest first look for a key sticker

Re: black screen

its a pirate copy plain and simple

I had one on mine and didnt know about it until I looked at what updates required downloading I noticed that one of them was always unchecked.  So silly me i checked it, downloaded it comptuer re-started and Bam black screen a warning from Security Essentials that my computer didnt pass validation and I had paid good money for that copy.

Do a search on your computer and see if you have a program named "windows 7 loader" turns out that its a validation bypass hack that allows windows to be put on any computer multiple times.

If your IT guys are reputable they will do a clean install but I doubt if they will supply you with a disk as most computers have the operating system already installed on the computer by the manufacturer.

Dont let them validate it, do it yourself or else they might just be putting the same pirated version back onto your computer.

Re: black screen

If you buy a new computer with OEM version of win 7 installed then you do not allways get a disk with the software.

It is alowable to just set the recovery on a special partition on the hard drive. This partition is not directly accessable by

the user from windows 7. It is automatic by using the recovery key press on startup.
