ipad 2 connecting to internet

I have an ipad 2, I want to use my home wifi to search the net etc but it keeps coming up with an optus recharge page.  Do I have to recharge with Optus in order to connect to the net?  My home wifi is with Bigpond (Telstra).  I have connected via setting to the wifi so wondering why I still can't access the internet.  Help please!

just to add, in the setting the carrier is Optus.  If I change that to telstra I have no service where as if I leave it as optus I have service but no access to the net.  im lost!

Re: ipad 2 connecting to internet

the only thing I can think of is that its locked to the other network

we have a few ipads in the family with grandkids and they all easily connect to my wifi and im telstra

I just needed to put in the codes that come with the telstra set-up the ones on the little plastic card

sher. We also have an iPad2 and are connecteed to Telstra. It sounds like someone has bought this initially on an Optus plan and it is locked to them. Call Optus service centre and ask them. They may be able to unlock it for you.  We had no problems at all connecting ours to Telstra. Do you have a wireless connection?
