I have a laptop about 8 weeks old in the last few days it has become incredibly slow .It takes about 80 seconds to load a page or longer if it works at all.Last night it took 22 min to download a 4.6 MB newsletter.I also cannot see any videos on you tube, just a black screen where video belongs.
I have tried removing Avast all together, uninstalling and reinstaling my modum and taking it back to an earlier time twice ..all with no improvement .
I have installed a free trial of norton instead of Avast and it said it did a quick scan and found 55 cookies but thats made no difference .
I have both internet explorer and google crome as browsers and wondered if that may be an issue? would it be worth trying to uninstall one or both? sometimes I got a message internet explorer had stoped working so im wondering if thats a problem but both browsers have the same issue
Im realy stuck as to what to do
any ideas?? thanks

My frist suspect is the modem
Is it wireless or Wired Ethernet?
ADSL or dial up?
I would try perhaps either buy even a Chepi modem Or even connect at someone's else modem and see if same issue.
I also maybe suspect a virus
Do you have a good paid virus software?
Do a Full System scan may take a while but may be worth it.
Feel free messege me in ebay system.

I have trouble with youtube when I view alot of them (20 -30) without clearing my viewing history. The usual answer to this type of question is, clear your cookies.
I set mine up to auto clear cookies AND viewing history when logging off.

Thanks for that .I have dug out an old modum and that seems to have made a huge difference !.Its just the finger modum from crazy johns so I will take it back and see if they will fix/replace as it looks like the modum was the problem..at least I kept the old one
The you tube I will try with the cookies cleared ,Funny enough Internet explorer has stopped working now It is ok with google chrome and iv just installed Mozilla firefox and they both seem to work fine at the moment so hopefully:-D
Thanks for the help

Hmm well it s working with you tube again but I didnt do anything just went to site so I think for whatever reason instaling Firefox has solved that...very odd as it would not work with internet explorer or google chrome

Glad it worked.
Internet explore Stinks big time in every single Review I have seen compared to Firefox .
Firefox is best browser for high end requirments like Youtube
so stick with that & new modem you should be good.

Maybe because I don't use firefox enough?, but I've never had a problem with IE and IE is easier to use, imo. Also the videos appear slightly smaller using FF and when scrolling the pages it's a little jumpy.
I think after using FF for a while, without clearing viewing history the same thing will happen. Although the letters appear blacker, I'm still going back to IE.(using FF at the moment)
That's my review.:-D
I'd like to hear what others like better about FF. Who knows, maybe I'd use it. I just don't see any improvement.

Hi , i would suggest open task manager when accessing the net and note processes to determine any resource hogs as indicated by excessive cpu usage by abnormally busy programs
alt ctrl del pressed at the same time
At idle should be about 5% total cpu power
Also i suggest access the computer vendor driver download site and update all device drivers starting with the chipset (if there be an update)

I use chrome.. Most of my friends use Firefox or chrome, less security holes than IE.. Last time I used IE I ended up plagued with browser hijackers and adware..
Also you can get Adblock plus for Chrome and Firefox so I don't see any ads anywhere
