Went out with a guy one time who owned one- that dog was so smart but in a conceited sort of a way...if Pete left him at home he would go trash his room :^O like REALLY trash it- he would often find a way out of the yard and travel kilometres thru heavy traffic to find where Pete was- he'd do the rounds of all Pete's mates houses until he found him, lol

Are basenjis intelligent? Oh, yes. But not in the way you might first think. If basenjis were high school students, they would not be the brainiacs who score high enough on their SATs to go to Harvard on a full scholarship. No, basenjis would be the hoodlums with the smarts to bypass security, break into the principal's office, steal a copy of the test, and sell it for cigarette money.
