Safety warning triangles and sellers offering non-compliant, low quality product.

One of the things that annoys me as a road safety advocate, are sellers here in AUS, but to be fair - in other locations around the globe too, who sell non-compliant and low-performance 'safety triangle/s', - that by their characteristics - often don't have a 'daytime' inner fluroescent orange triangle to supplement the provided 'night-use' red reflex reflector.  Or that the reflector proper - lacks any meaningful reflecting_light_ability; rendering the item pointless, and indeed dangerous to the road user by virture of having to walk in traffic to set the item up.  A safety warning triangle needs to STAND OUT and perform - not blow away or out of alignment in a slight breeze.

Australia has an Australian Standard for hazard-warning triangles; AS3790 and AS3790B

AS3790 is basically our US-DOT adoption for a warning triangle, you see these as having a sand-filled base as weight.  Commonly sold in sets of three for trucks etc.

AS3790B is for two Specs.  1. is the unique to Australia design, bearing red reflector 'dots' held on a low-height, white-background triangle, this in turn you fix to the products fold-out base.  Hella make them.  OPINION - these are worthless junk; they blow over or out of alignment easily, has no real 'daytime' use, though the red reflectors are quality E marked item.  Better however - than some of the non-conforming junk triangles I refer.

2.  Is that AS3790B is also Australia's adoption of the 'global safety warning triangle' Specification 'UNECE 27R' - the so called Euro triangle; you get these as standard in many EU made cars usually, even in Great Wall's, Mahindra, Lexus.  Ford and Mitsubishi Australia offer this Specification of triangle as an 'Accessory'.  Ford Australia example:-  http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/Satellite?c=FEATUREASSET&cid=1137384344763&itemid=1249035322110&pagen...

I'll not link to the substandard items on Ebay, so as not to offend domestic sellers of such, but ask that sellers of such items stick to sourcing product complying with 'UNECE 27R' (gives automatic AS3790B compliance) and AS3790 proper.  (UNECE 27R triangle IS a better performer insofar 'reflecting' etc, than purely AS3790 sand-filled base type).

Other aftermarket suppliers of UNECE 27R Spec warning triangles in AUS - that I am aware to date are:-

Supercheap ($11.98):-  http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-Reflective-Triangle.aspx?pid=215554#Cross

Bunnings ($9.90 in their 'traffic control section'). - No weblink.

Supplier ProKit - Item Number RG9212 (single unit - larger stowage base), and a set of three UENCE 27R triangles as item number RG9366.  Via autoparts retailers, but also I see them soemtimes on Ebay.  http://125.214.65.4/~prokitc/Cat_pages/cat%20split/CAT2_split%2055.pdf

NB - I have NO relationship whatsoever with any of these companies, and don't sell these items.  This is purely roadside safety advocacy.
