I new to eBay and am learning as I go, no problems until now (a few hiccups w/notifications) anyways here's the situation: I sent item to buyer and 2wks later received a msg saying not received yet. after a week of back and forth and me making two trips to the post office to enquire and being told there's delays due to covid they have now launched a buyer request thing anyways in one of the msgs she mentioned the local post office she uses and the name of the postman. Ive just talked to this person and after describing my envelope ( ordinary envelope no tracking or signature required which is my mistake) he recalled very specifically giving this package to the recipient plus a description of its contents (packing material) so I know it's been delivered. I'm wondering what should I do next do I tell the buyer that there mailman remembers giving it to them or do I contact eBay and give them this information?

All the post office said is if it's not tracked there's nothing they can or will do. If I sent anthrax I bet that they could track it. The post office had zero input into this in anyway.

Being a small rural country town it's more of a ppl drop in once a week to see if there's any mail for them situation.the post office is most likely also the general store/hardware store etc etc.

Jelly - we were only discussing the cost to post.
I didn't say that was what I charged to pack & post.

its a small town.
Even less reason for him to stick around while mail is opened.
Hole in the bucket. lol

OP - nobody opens their mail in front of the postie. These guys are only at the mailbox for 3 seconds while they drop in the post. Highly unlikely the buyer would even be talking to the guy, let alone go through the mail and then open it in front of them? This story doesn't hold water for a minute.
See my above post:

This is not a place where the postie drops mail in letterboxes unless you are close to the post office

So lesson learned, we have zero protection as sellers unless it's got tracking. Is there anything else I need to know?
Is there still wiggle room for buyers to pull **bleep** and say they didn't receive it or it was lead not silver or something.what else can i do to protect myself?

Nothing is 100% with online selling.
There will always be scammers and unscrupulous buyers.
If you want you can any member to your BBL so they can't bid or buy from you.

That one is simple - always photograph markings on metal along with photos of the piece.
A close up of the markings - and a close up of where they are situated on the piece.

What's BBL and by member do you mean ebay buyer?

Yes - there is a ' blocked buyer list ' - you can maintain.
Anyone you don't want to sell to - add them.
