I'm a new Ebay seller. If I buy order from Alibaba and supplier ship it via air courier to Australia, do they clear the customs for me and deliver the items to my door?
My suppliers say they deliver door to door, but I have to clear the customs and pay the tax. I'm confused if they use services like DHL/FedEx which deliver the goods to the door at what point I should pay the taxes and customs duties.
Can someone with experience to import goods via air couriers explain to me how you do it??? Please....
Put as simply as I can.........
If you order $100 worth of goods with $10 postage you will be invoiced for $110 plus GST of $11. You will pay this invoice of $121 and the goods will arrive at your address by whatever method of postage your seller has choosen.
If you buy goods to whatever value and the cost of the goods and shipping is $1000 or more it is a whole new ballgame. The goods will be shipped after you have paid for them and when they arrive here they will be held in Customs and you will be notified of the Customs fees and GST to be paid before the goods will be released by Customs.
Be aware that these Fees and GST can be between 25% and 40%, depending on the rating of the items you are importing.
I am rather concerned that you are buying items to sell hen you have never sold on bay before. It is not as easy as it looks.
I suggest you sell a few items from around your house that you do not need to get a feel for how things work.
At this stage you should not even be thinking about GST....unless you have a business already where your ebay selling will add to your turnover. I do feel this is unlikely as you have no idea about importing and GST.
