What is ebay policy re who takes the hit if an untracked Auspost item is never delivered?

I general, it is up to the seller to make sure the buyer gets their item or is not out of pocket.
If the buyer paid by paypal, and the seller sent with acceptable proof of posting and the item went missing, then paypal would refund the buyer as both the buyer and the seller have paypal protection.
If the seller sent by unacceptable means then paypal would refund the buyer from the sellers funds.
If the buyer paid by bank deposit, any good seller would still refund, and then file a missing item claim with AP, but as bank deposit is a non safe method pf payment, the seller cannot be forced to refund. A neg would surely follow as a result though.
