Why did the cost of postage for a recent ad increase. I listed it as $40 but when it appeared online it was $79.15. Two people queried this in messages but it was  already sold . I have since refunded my customer $ 40 When reviewing my add I noticed the change and edited the add to read $40 but this was ignored.

My complaint is that I only received two bids during the auction because I believe customers were put off by the amount of postage.

Will this happen again?

Do you have flat rate postage or calculated postage, your sold item showed postage to my location as  $97.50

Is the licensing fee for packaging material when shipping to Germany automatically applied, if I choose calculated postage? I read here: https://www.lizenzero.de/en/blog/german-packaging-act-on-etsy-what-do-online-retailers-have-to-consi... about this phenomena in Germany.

Hardly relevant after 18 months. Even less relevant when you choose a specific country that the OP hasn't mentioned as being the issue. And more irrelevant when you quote an Etsy link. This is eBay, if you haven't noticed.
