Having lodged a complaint against Pay Pal and Ebay in regards to illegally freezing funds and also referring the matter to the privacy commisioner. The Financial Services Ombudsman also wants to hear about accounts where funds have been placed under the 21 day hold. Their office is anticipating an across board deluge of complaints and they wish to be advised of individual cases as believe this is a breach of law.

Through this thread, I have contacted paypal & FOS in regards to my newer ebay account having funds frozen through paypal.
I sent an email to auexecutiveescalations@paypal.com as well as submitting a complaint through the FOS. I did this on Friday and today (Tuesday) received an email from paypal stating that that my funds are now available. Also received a case number today from the FOS advising that they will investigate the matter.
I would like to thank you all for this information on how to deal with this situation.
Again, if it wasn't for these threads, I would have no idea on where to find out solutions to ebay/paypal issues.

Thanks so much for the info I-love-my-sheep 🙂
I just did my first sale and yep, funds on hold until the 14th Feb. Since I plan on listing a few things over the next week or so I'm going to have budget in the out of pocket costs for post until the first payments clear!
I'm not sure who mentioned upping my feedback via cheapies from China but ironically I looked a few items the other day from one of those huge sellers. The kids got clear boots for Xmas which are designed to wear with bright or printed socks and I unticked the Australia Only box (which I never do lol) and found tons of them for $1 or $2.
So am off to buy up on bits of tat that the kids will no doubt love, and will hopefully bump my numbers up a bit 🙂

Update:
Called paypal about the hold this morning. Person on the other line told me it will be cleared once Australia Post changes the status to delivered or if the buyer leaves a feedback.
Buyer leaves a feedback in the afternoon so I rang paypal back up. Lady on the line said their is now a discrepancy from the feedback and the tracking number I supplied her as it was still stated as in transit.
In essence even if you use the ebay postage label, paypal doesn't get the tracking number automatically!!! So you have to call them to add it!
As I am not a power seller, I am at their mercy and the funds will be cleared next week sometime 😞 I will try the FOS and see what happens.

Good idea punkybird.
Just remember while China generally means cheap, it is not all tat if you choose your sellers wisely.
I buy quite a lot from China and most of it is quite good....I would never buy electronics or phones or anything that is actually required to work. And "genuine" jewellery is rarely genuine, especially silver. And forget the designer dresses and bags....they will be fake.
I regularly keep my grandchildren supplied with cute purses and wallets, pencil holders and other desk top novelties, cute ballpoint pens that actually work, note pads and diaries.

Probably if you were a viable alternative they would - get advertising................
BUT, not on these boards, the moderators will probably remove all your 10 advertising posts and give to violations or maybe even a holiday............................advertising a business on the boards is a violation of policy...............you'd be well advised to self report all your posts.

Looks like the mods have done a clean out. All the spam appears to be gone now 😉

I have upheld my end of the 2 recent transactions - posted the items yesterday, sent messages to both buyers stating the tracking numbers & added the tracking numbers to the listing details...... thought I had already written that here before but can't seem to find it now??
Anyway when I did that via ebay yesterday the HOLDING DATE reduced by 2 days to now say 12/2 instead of 14/2. One buyer has already RECEIVED their item today and left me FB. No change to holding date though.
Logged into Paypal - YEP MY MONEY IS STILL ON HOLD. Then I saw a blue link in the payment details.... "Edit Tracking Info" - honestly didn't know you could do that there in Paypal as I'd not noticed that before...... so I went & put the info in there too. Still no change to holding date. but apparently the buyers will get an email from Paypal with the tracking number
