30% mark up on Buy Now kills sales

Ebay in their wisdom now state that your Buy Now price must be 30% higher than the starting Price result a 99% drop of in sales, two emails to customer service brings no result.

Two emails to customer service will never get any response.

If enough sellers complain then maybe something might be done, but doubtful.

eBay in it's wisdom (as you say) often make 'improvements'  that make no sense to many of us.:-(

If a buyer really wants your item they'll use the BIN function otherwise they will just make a bid. Where's the problem? As a buyer myself, I rarely even look at a BIN price. Makes no difference to my buying habits so why is it soooo worrying for a seller.

so have you tried to just list with an Auction price you'd be happy with and leave it at that???

Re: 30% mark up on Buy Now kills sales

We had one particular item (one of our best sellers) that we had listed in our store and also listed at auction at $1 less (and with a BIN that was the same as our store price).

We did it mainly for the exposure that the auction format gave us. Interestingly about 80% of the purchases came as BIN's via the auction (which was on auto relist).

The item failed to relist under the new rules but sales seem to have just transferred to the store listing ....

.... we're delighted - saving money, and our store item is getting the boost in Best Match!

This is why they brought it in, sellers where just including it,to  work the search results.

Never could understand why as a buyer you would bid if the BIN was barely any more. Just BIN then you know its yours and in the next post.

As I mentioned in another 30% thread, I used BIN with auctions because when I tried the fixed price listings my items were not showing up in searches. At all. At the time I felt auctions were the only listing formats being seen by buyers. No matter what I tried in trying to find my own fixed price listings (using words from title, or combos of other words from title and description) they didn't show up.

I don't know if things have since improved, I don't know if auctions and fixed price listings get the same exposure or not.

I like BIN for the fact that it can encourage quicker sales, which is great when one is decluttering! The 30% mark up really annoys me. I think when/if I get back into selling I will just try some ordinary auction listings but make them short auctions, keeping in mind that it can take 24 hrs for ebay to index the listings (apparently).
