I listed a car that wasnt going and followed the prompts to list in the category given by ebay. The car sold for $66, a lot lower than I had expected but nevertheless a deal is a deal. My disgust came when I received the bill from Ebay for $55 being $10 for listing and $45 Final Value Fee. During listing you are advised of the listing fee but at no time does it warn you there is a $45 final value fee regardless of the price you sell for.
I sent an email to Ebay support who simply said this is the standard price as per our fees blah blah blah........
Just had to vent, I feel totally ripped off, and hope my vent saves someone else getting caught!!!

Geez, thats unlucky mate, should have read the selling fees located in up the top under sell tab, it shows a $45 FVF for whatever you price sells at. $66 or $6,066, it dont matter same fee at any price.
Good on you for honouring your sale to the buyer, shows you are a decent person.

I agree AA - well done OP - most would have renegued, sorry it worked out so lousy, but remember, what goes round comes round, and you did the right thing here ๐

Sorry you feel ripped off but the fees are very clearly laid out and if you wanted to get more for your car you should have started at a higher price.
You could also have listed it under the spares category which would have been a free listing and a 7.9% of selling price final value fee.
At least you covered your costs and didn't have to pay a wrecker to come collect it.

Wow bummer. I had to get a wrecker to remove a not-working car once and it cost me $300 because they had to drain the oil and coolant (after the $90 scrap metal value it was $210 lol, lucky me!) I would've been better off pushing it for a block, taking the plates off and leaving it there! You've definitely done the right thing by honouring the sale.

That would be fine until the police do a search on the VIN and the engine number.

Anybody who pays to have somebody come and remove a car body is being ripped off. If you check your local newspaper, you'll find a number of classified trade ads in the back which list scrap metal merchants who will not only come and take your old car for free, but in many cases they will even pay you a small fee for the privilege.
A close friend of mine does this for a living (has done for 30-odd years now) and they make their money from the scrap metal value of the car body. Prices vary according to international demand, but at the moment, the metal recyclers are paying around $185 per tonne for scrap, and there is NO charge for removal of fuels, lubricants, or tyres. That's also just another rip off. ๐

FESA will also take vehicles (with or without) engines for training purposes.
Bad luck about your sale. Golden rule: you should always have your minimum price as your start price.
